Good day, I am planning a move to St. Thomas in the next few years. I am finishing my RN schooling and will stay here to work on the mainland for a few years to make as much money as possible. I was just wondering what everyone thinks about the local hospital and if anyone works/ has worked there. what to expect, wages, hours worked, patient load, etc. also, opinions from people who have used it's services are welcome. Thanks for any and all help you can provide.

I WOULDN'T HOLD MY BREATH FOR GETTING A JOB AT OUR HOSPITAL...THEY HAVE EVEN REDUCED THE AMOUNT OF TRAVELING NURSES THAT COME HERE...I HAVE SPENT LOTS OF TIME IN THE ER FOR VARIOUS REASONS...NONE OF THEM HAVE BEEN GOOD EXPERIENCES...IF YOU'RE GONNA GET SICK, GO TO THE STATES...OR AT LEAST TO PUERTO RICO...I'LL SEND YOU A PM WITH THE E-MAIL ADDY OF A FRIEND OF MINE THAT HAS WORKED THERE...

I am sure that Marty is in the know about who is being hired at SRMC.;)
Have you scrolled through the information at http://www.srmedicalcenter.org/? You can contact Marci Cohen, nurse recruiter, about job options, although if you are looking for something in the future, I'm not sure how helpful it would be. We need dedicated nurses, so please don't let the negative waves of some posters deflect you from your goal. You may want to come down for a vacation/look-see visit once you are done with school and are serious about the possibility of relocating.

Since I have many friends that have worked at SRMC in the past, work there now, and the fact that I was a Sales Rep for CalMed and called on the Hospital DAILY for over a year, yeah, I'd say I have a passing knowledge of the facility...
