Electricity and water in st thomas
What's the real deal about your electricity?? Also how does getting water to your residence work.?
Beth: Have you read the information up above the banner picture? It's a kind of FAQ for this board. Look under "The USVI Overview"- "Infrastructure".;)
Electricity is expensive.
Most homes have cisterns.
However, many landlords charge for your usage for both.
It's expensive to live here, Beth.
Do your research.
As EAST ENDER says look up faqs and do a search for various questions.
Not having a car is a pain in the butt.
Most of the grocery stores have filtered water dispensing machines you can fill up your own 1 and 5 gallon jugs for drinking water if you don't want to drink from the cistern.
Any health concerns with the cistern water for showering or other non-drinking uses? For instance do you boil it and let it cool for some other uses? Perhaps I'm overthinking your water scarcity, coming from the state with the most abundant natural source of fresh water in the U.S. (one of the many island life trade-offs of course).
Cistern water is rain water so it's generally fine for other uses. Doesn't hurt to have a good filter on it. The best filters make it fine for drinking.
