elec and water deposits
Could you please tell me how much the deposits are to have these utilities turned on?
I don't remember what the deposit is for electric but unless you're living downtown or close to it, you'll probably have cistern water, not city water.
I think electric was around $100 but its been a while, not sure if I remember correctly. Never been on city water, so I have no idea about that.
When we bought our apartment complex on STX and had all the apartments changed over to our name, it was $100 per apartment, no matter the size, and $25 connect fee per unit. They were all already connected...so call that a transfer fee. That was just a little over a year ago.
Here's what I paid in March as far as deposits go:
WAPA (electricity) requires a deposit of $125.00 made payable to WAPA. Credit cards are not accepted for the initial set up.
Innovative (phone) requires a deposit of $30.00 per line, cable requires a deposit of $58.00 made payable to Innovative (separate checks). Right now only the basic cable without a cable box is available. You can use a credit card with Innovative and you can also use their monthly auto bill if you'd like.
As of two weeks ago, digital cable boxes were available. Maybe they have run out again. Don't get installation fees confused with deposits. At Wapa, it's $100 deposit and $25 connect ($125 as SOS said, but you only get $100 back at the end) Don't remember the cable deposit, not much, but the installation fee can vary according to whether the cable is already run to the house. The big deposit is on the box itself and the remote. Also, you must have a lease or deed and picture ID to get service. And, don't forget, as of Feb., if you don't have a digital TV, you will need a converter.
Juanita, any idea if I can reserve a box by phone or so I need to go to their office? Where is the office anyway?
Not sure, but I would bet you have to go to the office, since you have to pay a deposit on the box. I have NEVER had the Innovative phone or cable do anything for me over the phone. Doesn't matter if you have been a good paying customer for umpteen years, they want an additional deposit, which must be paid in person. I have apartments on STT, but I live on STX. I wanted to put cable in one of my STT units, and it was a completely new experience for them to work with me, in person, on STX to put service on STT. It's all the same company, with the same forms and fees, etc, but it took some doing. They were very pleasant and got it done. I am about to try it again for another apartment. Will be interesting to see if it's any easier.
On STX, it's in the nice looking building on RT. 79 with the hugh planters, that look like clay pots out front, very near the hospital and about 1/4 mile north of Sunny Isle, kitty-corner across from Peppertree housing. There is a FirstBank there too.
On STT, it's in the Tutu Park Mall Parking lot. Hugh sign, can't miss it. There could be other locations, too. I just have personal experience with these two.
The general rule of thumb, on STX at least, is to do everything in person. You will find it easier in the long run. A poor second is to try the phone. E-mail is a lost cause.
