Early Childhood Education
My husband is thinking of relocating to St. Croix for a job. I am in the early childhood education field. What are the prospects for an early childhood educator in St. Croix? Also, what areas would I be looking at should I want to purchase a home?
Thank you for any information you can give me.
There are pre-school programs at the private schools and Head Start programs through the government. Social Services hires people to work with disadvantaged children who are potentially or actually delayed in their development. There are two Montessori schools. It all depends on what interests you most, but there are a variety of options.
Choosing the right area for purchasing a home is going to depend on many different factors. Figure out the price range you can most likely afford and that will lead to the next step of seeing what properties are on the market within that price range. They will probably be scattered about the island. If you know where your husband would be working, take that into account when you choose a neighborhood. You don't want to live at either far tip of the island if you work at the opposite end.
There are neighborhoods where most of the residents are locals, others that are mostly people who relocated from the mainland or Europe, and others that are a pretty good mix. Some neighborhoods are more rural and some are high density living. There are parts of the island that are very dry and you will have cactus in your landscaping... and parts that are rainforest and you will need to cut back the fast-growing vines. There are areas with ocean views and areas with views across a valley... or views of the oil refinery.

There is also a federal Birth to Three program.
