I relocating to St. Thomas sometimes this summer for a job. I was wondering what the social scene is like for people in their early 20's. are there alot of single females, where do people my age hang out. etc... if anybody could elaborate it would be appreciated.

Hello Steve,

Here is a repost of a reply to a similar question that might help:
Not sure what others would have to say about this, but here's my two cents:

St. Thomas is a small island, and whites are the minority. Since you're looking for a particular demographic within that minority, that narrows your selection a bit as well.

Since you say you want to start a family, I assume you're looking for a long-term relationship, so you'll have to look a little farther here, since a lot of single women in your desired demographic might either be tourists or seasonal workers.

That said, there definitely are single women in that age range on St. Thomas. In my limited experience, you're right about your supposition re: couples & bar crowd, but there are still single women out there!

My advice to you would be to go to some bars/restaurants that fit your personality just to meet folks, and, in addition, go out and *do* things, schedule permitting. Go hiking, maybe take a class or join a club that suits your interests. Go to beaches, go do watersports, and, most importantly, put yourself in situations with other people in your age range.

Pirate's Cove Marina on the East End has a Sunset Blues Cruise every Thursday at 5:30pm- they sail aboard the Jolly Roger, and there's live blues afterwords at their restaurant. Usually about 40 people go, and, while the crowd varies, there are usually some single gals on board. You can also try concerts (Pirate Radio and Knight Quality Stations do concerts) or hikes, etc. in St. John

Hope this helps!

Best,

LR

I am a 20 year old that was planning on moving to St Croix this summer and it would be great for me to know someone that was going through the same thing as I was. I am pretty much going down there knowing no one and bring pretty much nothing. So let me know what your plans are and maybe we could be of benefit for each other

Hello Steve,

You are going to find a lot of the other 20 year olds that are on the social scene (out at night ect.) during the summer are either new residents like youself or are college kids that are from St. Thomas who are home for summer break or just graduated from highschool (our drinking age here is 18 so highschool seniors and sometimes juniors are at the bar scenes, particularly during summer months on Friday, Saturday). There will be quite a number of the college kids age group at bars like Greenhouse and Duffys. So I think you will find a fair number of your age group and if you befriend them then you will have folks to hang out with at the beach ect and do day time things with. After summer the scene will be fewer and will be more of college kids that are attending UVI and visitors or seasonal residents at the bars/clubs.

St. Croix was picked for me. I have an internship that starts towards the end of August.

Islander,
what about single guys in their mid to late 20's or above. I am moving and am 25, just curious. Where most people hang out and what they do for fun. Thanks.

I want to move now, but i will have to wait about 2 months. Actually, I have always wanted to live on an island and i love the warm weather. Plus i am 25 and have no attachments so now is the perfect time. I'm ready for a change, and you?

2 months is probably about my time frame too, my company just bid on office space, so as soon as we get it i will be moving down there. I can't wait to move, i visited last october for a scouting trip and had a blast, the biggest change for me will probably be nightlife, i live in Chicago, and there is an abundance of nightlife here, in st. thomas there aren't as many choices, but the it was what you make of it. i also have no attachments and am excited to move. where you from?

tennessee. so nashville has some nightlife but when you have lived in tenn your whole life it gets pretty boring, like any other place i'm sure. so you will be working with people at your current job or all new people. I am so ready to move, it would be cool to know someone already when you get there, that way you'll have someone to check everything out with.
