If you have a current, valid license from the states you can get a VI License.

Hi Linda,
Thanks for your reply. It has taken me a while to find where I placed this site. At the present time I do nont have a valid drivers liscense.....has been three years due to the laws in the state of Virginia. I will be visiting Saint Croix in early Aug. to decide if I will be moving and not being able to obtain a VI drivers liscense would definately impact my decision. Any more information? My email address is rivergypsy1@earthlink.net if you would mail me there, otherwise I will watch for a reply here. Thanks.
Esther

If you have a license revoked because of a DUI I believe the laws are the same from state to state. St. Croix is not a "state" but is treated like one where laws of the US apply. I think the DUI governs all license agencies. But check with the USVI drivers license bureau first. Kate

Kate, I beleive you're right, if you are not eligible for a license where you are, you won't be here. And when you do become eligible, you will have to prove it and take the written and driving test.

Hello,

I don't know that the USVI DMV would be able to pull your license and driving records from the states... if they don't have access to it then the only way they will know about it is if you told them. The permit application does ask 1. Have you ever had a license? 2. Has your license ever been revoked? 3. Why? 4. Form for Police Report area. And the last line does say please sign that all information is correct. So you would of course be lying if you said you never had a license.... not sure what the consequeces are if they should find out. Definately call the DMV up and ask what the process is for applying for a license and perhaps ask whether they can access your driver license records in the states.

If you don't have a license then you have to take the written and driving part of the exam. If you had a valid license you would take only the written part.

Good Luck.
