Dream Question, LOL
Wouldn't it be great, if just once someone asked.
" I'm moving down to USVI, do you know where I can buy a GOOD car the day after I get there, I don't care about the price. I will also need a safe clean place to stay, I won't be bringing my pets, and again price is not the object."
LOL
There must be something I'm leaving out. Help me with this Ronnie , STXer, or?

Terry,
When is anything simple. I guess that is life. 🙂 Wife and I almost are that simple, but we have the pet. Price will not be an issue and we will be looking for a car that runs and gets us from A to B. We almost passed the simple test. I really enjoy the majority of the posts on the site and learn what to do and what not to do if a move to the VIs takes place.
Stewart
How did you get the smiley face? I wanted to put a couple in my post, but couldn't figure out how. LOL
Terry,
I do not know. It just showed up in my post. Perhaps it shows up based on specific words.
Stewart
terry,
If you read Board Rules and Help you will discover how to insert grimaces of all sorts.
if all those questions were that easy no one would need our help
Thank You 🙂
Terry: The questions that you want answered have been responded to in numerous posts over several years in many different formats on this forum. There simply is no answer to your "dream" question, "dream" being a fantasy...
SST, I wasn't looking for an answer, I was making jest. It seems that a lot of the questions are from people that, financially, probably shouldn't move there. IE: I've spent all my money on air fare, where can I get a cheap car. Can I camp out and live on the beach.I have three large dogs, four cats and a small pony, why can't I find a apartment to stay in.
LOL.
Yes I know everyone has dreams, and would like to live there.
Terry
Everyone wasn't born with a silver spoon, should those who weren't give up their desire to change and hopefully improve their quality of life? The people I normally enjoy most are those that have worked hard and struggled to come upon their current situation.
Your comment may have been in jest (and in an extreme sense I can somewhat relate) but for those of us that do have to factor money / cost into each equation it came across as a bit demeaning.
Just my thoughts

Robert A - I don't think Terry was trying to demean anyone. He wasn't born with a silver spoon, either, and worked hard to be able to afford to plan a retirement on STX. And he's waiting several years more to be able to do that. But we do see an awful lot of requests from kids still in high school or college or young couples looking to get away from wherever they grew up asking for people to point them to a waterfront home at $600 per month and, moreover, it is expected to be just two blocks from everything so they can walk to work and groceries and the landlord should be thrilled that they're going to bring their three pets. Others want to bring a family of 6 here and live on one minimum wage salary. That's hard to do anywhere.
The point is that people need to set reasonable expectations for themselves and for the island or they are going to be unhappy and feel they got a bad break. It truly is amazing how many people are hoping to move to the island with multiple pets and they never considered that this would add some formidable complications, both in transportation to get here and especially in finding a rental property. Since housing is the very first thing you have to scramble to get when you arrive in the islands, setting yourself up for failure isn't a great idea.
Millions of people on the mainland have fantasized at some time or another about moving to a tropical island. It is important for everyone to have dreams. But the reality is that the only ones who are going to be successful in transitioning to a new life in the USVI are those who get past the fantasy and do some serious homework and soul searching and then work very hard to get here. Once here, there are a lot of adjustments to be made in perception and expectations and just day to day interaction and activities. Life is different here. It's a very quirky small town with good weather (despite the rain this week!)
Based on the questions we get and the answers some give, here is an emoticon we should add...
David - LMAO!! Where did you come up with that one?
I got it off one of the sports boards I post on. This board is a great resource for those moving or vacationing in the U.S.V.I. but as far as message boards go, its format and tools are in the stone age.
David,
What do we really need on a message board? All people need is the ability to post, spell check for lazy people like me, a multitude of topics and large group of interesting people that have things to say. Perhaps I am very simple person.
Stewart
I agree with you Stewart. For this board you don't need much more then what is available. I was just pointing out the obvious that as far as message boards go this one is the bare bones.
Hey, I just found out how to use 🙂 I figured that was "high Tech". LOL!
terry - Sssshhhh.... you're going to get the reputation of being part of that un-hip, older generation who doesn't live their life remotely via computer through MySpace.com
Good for you Terry
I am one of those who need to factor money into every decision - most anyhow. I thought it was hilarious.
I came down here on a 30 day pmv with 3 suitcases - and never left. And never shipped anything. I work hard every day - ok - so on the days the boss isn't looking I screw off a bit - but I put out what I earn practically every week.
I don't live "well" according to some. I live in a 2000 sq ft home with plastic outdoor furniture for my living room. But I have what I need. I stay home instead of going out. I cook at home rather than eat out. I don't drink or smoke. I don't wander with my car anymore. I bought a nice car for 4K and have put 4 tires, a clutch, and wheel bearings on it. Tonight I bought 2 of the tires. That just put me over the edge money wise. Now, I decide how I will pay rent since I have new tires. But I had to have them - they were totally bald and had no tread at all. - flat - as a pancake.
So - there are those of us that live life close. I am not complaining. I chose to be here and live like I do. I wish it were more affordable, or that I had a sugar daddy, or that I had finished my .net classes before I came. But we deal with what is in front of us.
I know lots of people who come down, don't have to work or worry about where to live, etc, etc. and sit at the bar and get smashed daily. Is that living? Maybe that's their dream - not mine. I'll take what I have and laugh at the posts like Terry's.
Sorry for the long rant - love to you all!
Linda, you seem like you're very down to earth (no pun intended). I like your way of thinking and the "go for it" attitude is refreshing! I'm a Realtor in California and have always loved the Island life (Hawaiian Islands, St. Thomas, St. Martin and Catalina). I live in a resort town here and I don't think I'd have any problems adjusting to "your" lifestyle.
I know there's book to read and research to be done, but I'd certainly like to give it a try for about a year or so. Anyway, thank you for your honesty and candidness.
Rick
