Poor quality of phone line rears it's ugly head and staying connected to the internet is virtually impossilbe for periods longer than 1 or 2 minutes. Then, rarely I'll have a 2 hour period when everything is fine.

Innovative has checked the lines several times, been inside my apt to check, and today reproted the line is clean. Now what? My entire first month of service in October was absolutely perfect, rarely disconnected until I choose to, since the big rain week in November, I have had the disconnect problem.

Computer and ISP dial up connection number have been triple checked and are not the issue.

Sadly, I can not currently afford to just switch to DSL, but may eventually need to do that to conduct my planned online business that is very close to reality.

My question to all/any of you is - in your experience is there anything I can ask Innovative to do or try that will more throughly check the line and hopefully pinpoint the "short" or source of the problem so it can be repaired?

Took 4 connects and disconnects to post this!!!!!! Even with pasting in the post!

Paul,

Have someone run you brand new cat 5 wireing from the demarc (the network interface - usually a grey box found on the outside of your home) to your computer. Make it a dedicated line. I would not have innovative do this as they will charge a lot for it. You should be able to find a private telco. or electrician that can help you with that. You could possibly handle it yourself too. You only use the red and green wires in phone lines (1 pair) and the jack installation is a snap. E-mail or call me if you have any more questions.

Hope this helps,

Issac,
So you believe as I do that this is a wiring problem? Correct? If so, why can't Innovative find the "short" that they keep saying they are looking for? The phone guy that came checked the outside wiring that you talk about, I was standing right next to him.

Hello Paul,

When you actually talk on the phone do you hear a bunch of noise/static or is it just the internet that is being affected??

Phone noise is gone now, they tried to tell me it was the phone which I had at the time (a cheapie), but I didn't accept it, but I'd smashed the heck out of the phone in my frustraiton so bought a new one from Office Max.

Tonight, heh, I'm sticking online pretty steadily.

Landlady gave me the name of a guy that comes to work on her computer who just also happens to be an Innovative repairman as his day job. Not sure I can beat that combination and may just give it a try, asking this fellow about Issac's suggestion noted above.

I've really let this connection issue get to me and I need to let it go and work around it for now, but absolutely get it resolved.

I got this Low Pass Inline filter. Maybe that may help?

The filter may help, but a dedicated line would be the ticket.
