Dogs in the Islands
We're moving down to the islands for a six month travelling nurse assignment, and plan on bringing our dog and cat. I've seen several posts on how to get them there (thanks for all the info), but haven't seen much on boarding them/finding a pet sitter. I assume if we want to hop over to another island for a couple days, we couldn't bring the dog (golden retriever) with us, and would need somebody to watch her while gone. Are there any kennels (good ones) or anything like that? How about dog sitters? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Cheers,
Greg
Which island are you moving to?
whoops, forgot to include that 🙂 It will be St Thomas
Most of the vets offer kennel services. On St.Thomas we used Dr. Williamson, both as vet and for boarding. On St Croix, we use Dr. Hess as vet. My husband and I don't leave island at the same time anymore, so we don't need the service, but I would feel very comfortable leaving my animals with Dr. Hess.
After you've been here for a while, and made friends, you will be able to ask a friend to sit or, at least, get some first hand recommendations for sitters. It shouldn't be a problem.
Perfect, thanks a million!
Left my dog with Williamson for a weekend...came home with 22 ticks on him! And this is the same dog that we spent over $3,000 on with Williamson CURING him of tick fever (ehrlickiosis )! I spit out my window every time I drive by his place. Imperial Animal Hospital is by FAR a better place to go. 340-774-7034 Used to be Dr. Trip Stewart, but he moved back to the States...it is now Dr. Jack Boden running the place. Heard nothing but good about him.
Is Dr. Boden the English guy? If so, I've heard differently. There's a place near the airport that's fairly new run by Paris Nicholson (I think) & I've heard good things about it.
Paris' place by the airport is called KOPS, and I have always been happy with it. I debated whether or not to bring my dog and cat with me when moving to STT, and I'm so glad that I did!
