Moving to STX soon... are there any reliable dog groomers and kennels on the island?
Any experience or advice would be much appreciated! We have two dogs... soft coated Wheaton Terrier and a Havernese.
Thanks.

We've taken our dogs to Gallows Grooming which us in Gallows Bay. The owner is Ler Smith and she's been doing it for years. (340) 773-3181

If you're going to be mid-island or out West there's another groomer. Let me know where you're going to live and I'll give you that name if its closer to you.

Boarding is Island Animal Clinic. It's a vet hospital but they board and are wonderful to the animals. (340) 718-3106

When I first moved back two years ago my Standard Poodle was groomed by Gallows Bay Grooming for the first 9 months. She really does a beautiful job.

She insists your pet be there by 6:30 a.m. You must also call her back around the time you think she may be through if you have a stateside number as many do here. The last time I took him was a morning it was raining. I got up at 4:00 a.m. By 6:30 it was still raining so I put him in the car and we headed over to GBG and when I got there it was sprinkling, so I finally was able to let "go" as he wouldn't "go" earlier because of the rain.

I got bawled out, BAWLED OUT, for allowing him to get wet! Wasn't she going to bathe him? And his grooming that month (my dog gets groomed once per month, $80.00) was horrible!
It's as if she was took her being mad at me out on his grooming. I never went back!

I now use Chandra on Northside Road across from Vet clinic. 340-514-2327 easy to get a hold of at 9:00a.m. Always a smile and very easy to talk to about your pet.

Getting my dog anywhere by 6:30 a.m. is a problem for a 15 year old boy who sleeps to 9 or 10.

Can't imagine having to get my dogs together to be delivered to a groomer at 6:30 in the morning! Way too early for the excitement that taking the leashes of the hook entails since they know they are going for a ride and you'd better be taking them all!

What is the sense in that when they sit in a kennel all day, prior to being groomed?

I can drop my dogs off at Dr. Moore's here in STT (now that Andy has left) to have them groomed by 9:30 and pick them up at 3PM. Or I can call someone who comes to the house to groom them which I do for my elderly black Lab as she is past the leaping into the truck stage and needs help getting in and out these days and I hurt my shoulder so hard for me to lift her hind quarters to get her inside the cab. They do not ride in the back of the truck.

The price is about the same unless groomer is doing a dip for ticks, which is rare,
Thank Goodness, since the price then sky-rockets so will take them to vets office for that.
It runs about $65 for my 90 lb. lab. for a regular grooming session by the groomer and about $61.00 from vet's office. Apparently, they all now charge by size!
