Dog Groomer here needs moving advice
Hi all! My husband and I are considering moving to the islands but I was wondering if there's a need for dog grooming? We currently work together and are in the process of starting a small mobile grooming on the mainland. We also have 3 kids so I was wondering about schools, healthcare, etc. I could look through all these threads but it's easier to start my own post. We are coming back in October for vacation and were thinking of looking at houses while we are there. Any advice would be great!
have you decided on an island?
please read this forum for info on schools, health care and costs ( those three especially )
healthcare- no individual health insurance exists for Statesiders.
other people will chime in
but it really is easy to go back through the posts and read the ones that interest you.
just go to the top and do a search , expand the date to include at least the past year
With respect to St. Croix, there are 3 dog groomers that I am aware of. One operates out of a vet's office where she also works. The other two have their own store fronts and at least one of them (the one that I use) appears quite busy. You should consider operating an animal boarding facility on the side with higher-end as well as lower budget options.
2 Veterinarian offices on STT offer grooming and I know of 2 private groomers that come to home, one has a storefront and there are 2 other businesses that provide grooming well as.
I could look through all these threads but it's easier to start my own post.
But, its easier for all of us if you do your homework/research first and then ask the specific questions you didn't find answers for.
One of the groomers on STX just got approved to expand to doggy day care.
There's doggy daycare and boarding on STT as well.
They, too, provide grooming.
To be honest I don't think there is much more of a market than what's already here and in business. It's small here.
