Anyone ever use 800Petsupplies to ship a 40lb bag of dog food here? They say they will ship free and all which is good but more concerned of only getting 20lb's of food after it goes thru the post office(s) Thanks

I've ordered large bags of cat food through them - no problem at all. They don't just ship the bag on its own with a shipping label slapped on it but pack it very well in a large sturdy box.

make sure you're not buying IAMS or any other crap food and you should be good to go.

Lots of terrible companies out there putting "whatever" into a dog food bag and slapping a nice pic on it.

I just tried ordering some dog food and got:

We’re sorry, state and/or federal law restrict sales of 495801 033 to VI

That's odd. It's been a while since I ordered from them so maybe the rules have changed! Check out Walmart - their selection is much larger than the selection available here and their prices less.

Was looking for the Fromm stuff which Walmart doesn't have. Though the pet supply stuff prices were so low i think it would be cheaper using them and a forwarder than buying here. Ill check

I knew when I saw name of website I was in for a chuckle. Then Mike "Health Ranger" Adams was cited and I had to wipe the tears of laughter off my cheeks. 1 billion hungry kids and people want to feed their pets organic foods. Cheese and bread. I need rum and to find a Pokemon

The fact is that corporations are putting a lot of deadly crap in pet food and killing animals. I don't know about this particular website that LF posted but you can Google others.

Here are just some:

http://www.fda.gov/AnimalVeterinary/SafetyHealth/RecallsWithdrawals/

http://www.dogfoodadvisor.com/dog-food-recalls/

http://abcnews.go.com/Blotter/toxic-treats-china-killing-us-dogs-pet-owners/story?id=15927579

https://www.consumeraffairs.com/pets/beneful.html

Scoff, if you must, but to love and lose a beloved pet because you thought the dog food you thought was healthy because it's allowed to be sold and isn't, would be devastating.

My favorite part of the article talks about how the corn and soy fillers are "loaded with GMOs" and that rice is also loaded with them. First the moron who wrote the article apparently thinks GMOs are an ingredient and second there is no GM rice on the market thanks to the terrorists at Greenpeace. Another funny tidbit was the discussion of acrylamide, a known carcinogen. The author stated that the cooking process creates this substance.. probably very true, then derides GLOw, when the Innate potato, a GM crop created with only potato genes, was bred to produce much less acrylamide during frying. Of course the pandering fast food giants said no way to these potatoes, because obviously their health conscience clientele would not stand for all the GMOs up in their happy meals. This is why I'm glad we live in a republic, not a democracy, because people are too stupid to be making decisions like labeling DNA.

Plenty of outlets on STT from convenience stores to supermarkets to CostULess, KMart, etc. while the smaller markets on STJ (Pine Peace, Starfish, etc.) all carry dog food. It's not that it's not available here, just that some people prefer to feed their dogs particular brands which may not be available here and/or, you can often save several $$s at online outlets. Good luck with the move!

I think people should focus more on feeding dogs natural foods. Go shoot or catch a wild chicken and feed it to your dog. What could be more natural ?

A very large proportion of the recalled dog foods contained small amounts of salmonella. Guess where salmonella proliferates?` The direction this thread has taken is quite batty.

I order my dog food from Chewy.com. They ship free to Paradise Freight in Miami with a minimum order but I'm not sure what amount that is, but I always qualify.

I get my dog food from VIP Pet Supplies next door to Cost U Less.
It's pricy but worth it and the owner is very nice.
Had to get away from soy, corn, etc., based products when my 13 year old dog developed allergies 2 years ago. She's also allergic now to a bunch of other things. With allergy meds and the new diet of Taste of the Wild dog food, she has improved, immensely, with her skin issues and once more has a beautiful, glossy coat.

There are a couple of specialty pet stores in STT in addition to VIP.
Think there's one in Crown Bay, Yacht Haven Grande and out in Red Hook.

I remember the days when dogs ate scraps and leftovers and didn't die.

that's what the web site suggests over feeding bagged food.

All logical fallacy aside (wow Sparty, you really are 'merican aren't you, good to see the public education system is still working strong!) I didn't do much more than skim the article.. I don't care about "GMO" dogs aren't suppose to get soy or grain or corn in any significant volume, if you can't get over the fact that three letters were used in a sentence I'm not sure how you assimilate any new information.

The dog food industry is horrific due to a complete lack of transparency (Fraud IMO.. if you really get down to it).

In alaska I fed my dogs a raw food diet because we lived next to so many husky owners and race team trainers that it was cheap and available (mostly tripe.. I do NOT miss the smell of that!) And at times down here I've had to feed "Kmart" food while I looked for a supplier.

I have a lot of animals & an eye for animal health since, it's what I do for a hobby (2nd career??) & I can tell you that the feed your animals are on directly and observably effects their health.... the coat on dogs is an obvious indicator of over all health, horses are the same way; plus a multitude of more subtle signs depending on the type of animal.

When they can't get the basic science right I am not going to believe the rest of their drivel. I agree with the basic premise of your original statement, but I'm not going to preach to people how to best raise their pets nor am I going to take much stock in a "citation" like the one provided. As long as pet owner do not try to force their lifestyle choices (vegans I'm talking to you) on their cats and dogs I'm cool with it.
Public schools, I guess, taught me about privileged first world problems like inferior pet food and I'm thankful for that.

I guess they should have taught you a bit more about corporate fraud and malfeasance then, eh?

I wouldn't call it "inferior" when pets that have been euthanized are rendered down and put right back into pet food causing high resistance to drugs & a crazy spike in pet cancer (which in turn, for certain owners means a lot of medical expenses).

I'm pretty sure this doesn't come down to "inferior" so much as "dangerously fraudulent".

Weren't you against oversight in the supplement industry yet think pet food needs to be better regulated?
Ok. To each their own. My guinea pig eats better than many families on this island and when I'm feeding it carrots, spinach and lettuces I truly can't believe I'm doing it for an animal that will become dinner if cr@p ever hits the fan and we need protein. Frannie will be as delicious to us as Mr. Pinchy was to Homer.

Hey people...we're leaving NYC - yay! - and we'll be coming for a few months while we figure out our next step, so I'll be bringing my kitties for an extended stay at our place out to Cowpet! I usually order my pet supplies from Amazon. My cats use World's Best Cat Litter - has anyone seen this brand in the store down there? I'm sure the shipping cost will cancel out the online savings...
