Dog Care Needs, Looking for Recommendations
Am arriving 1 July with my older pug, thankfully found a landlord who was willing to allow her on my two-year lease.
Looking for recommendations on local vets, groomers, and dog watchers (a few times during the year I will make planned trips to the States and of course we always have to anticipate those unexpected family emergencies). I have enjoyed having a dog watcher here in Florida who provided a wonderful dog-watching service where she would come into the home and either stay with the dog/house watch, or come and go each day, as needed, for walks and feeding).
Would appreciate any personal successes you’ve experienced with these services, feel free to private message if you prefer of course.
You're moving to St Thomas, right? I highly recommend the Kennel Club across from Pueblo Long Bay behind the Rainbow store.
I visited his pet boarding area earlier this year and was very impressed. You have to talk to the owner and see his facility to understand why I like him so much. His place doesn't smell doggy and he makes sure the dogs have an outside play area or get to run around indoors.
Owner's name is Paul. I'll see if I can find his card, but he's probably on Facebook under either Paul's Pampered Pooches or the Kennel Club.
Dr. Jane Renalds of Veterinary Center. They also board and bathe.
2 locations. 1 in Red Hook and the other on Weymouth Rhymer Hwy.
I have a pet sitter that stays at my home when I'm away. PM me for contact info.
Thx ms411 and Alana33 for the leads, truly appreciated.
I hope you’re planning on having AC. Pugs and snob nose breeds don’t do well here. Had a friend who brought her out down. Overheated at the beach and died. Especially for an older dog AC will likely be needed but you’re from FL so at least he’s used to it.
Personally I don’t like any STT vets. All full of shit and want to charge you for stuff you know won’t help. Were up to 5k on our cat that has IBD and they just don’t listen. Some of the things I heard vets here say was absurd. One even claiming herpes.
For pet sitting I suggest Shenell at Pawsituve Living. Never used her but she’s a friend of mine and an amazing person who truly love animals.
Re a groomer: This might seem a bit strange, but check out Style a Dog VI.
I am on stx, so my dogs don't go there, BUT Karen the owner had Style a Dog a couple miles from my house in NY before she moved to STT, and she told me that she wanted to carry the shop name with her. She is the one who cared for our Portuguese Water Dog for the 14 years of her life...and before either Ted Kennedy or the Obamas had the breed, She had our dog trained amazingly---when I would put her in my shower for bathing, she would sit and give me each of her paws to clean her legs...was pretty funny but she was the best dog we ever had, and Karen kept her looking great, and treated her well at the shop. From what I have seen she has good reviews in STT, but not a surprise to me....
Thanks for the precaution AandA2VI, yes it’s well known that this breed doesn’t tolerate heat well, don’t know what those people were thinking, taking their pug to the beach. Will follow-up with your pet-sitting lead, thx.
Thx rmb2830 for the dog grooming recommendation, pugs are fairly low maintenance as far as the grooming goes, but mine, due to her age and being hard of hearing and partly blind, needs someone with a gentle and patient touch, your person sounds like what I’m looking for.
