Dish TV/Internet on STT
Hope I don't make a word choice mistake and get slammed again, but here goes.
I've been told the Pizza sized dishes don't work on the island. In talking with the folks at DirectTV, the say it does. Is the problem there's no one on STT who is a qualified installer or is there truly a problem lining up the sattelite?
I have DISH Network and we moved with our 24" (or was it 36") dish. This did not work.
We evenutually bought a 44" from Cal at Satellite Entertainment Services. This works for 75% of the channels I pay for (those that are on 110). The other channels are only accessible with the 6' dish for accessing the other satellite (119).
Don't know DirectTv's situation, but it may be similar.
Hello Dennis,
I asked someone in the know and here is their response:
"There are two direct tv, latin america and US. The US direct tv - we are too low to receive signal here in the USVI so it doesn't work. The latin american one is available in Puerto Rico but not yet in the USVI, its in Spanish. Not sure if the PR dish would work in the USVI, it might, however you'd have a problem getting the dish and service - in PR they require a PR address to get the dish/service and the installer brings it with to set it up. You can't bring the dish from the states to pick up the Latin signal because the card is for a different statelite than the latin system so it won't work.
Dish network with full size dish works well here."

In terms of cable TV instead of satellite, I think I read there are two options available somewhere back. Just wondering if anyone had an opinion on what the best one was, and also where are the local channels from, or do you have a choice of where to get local channels from? Thanks,
Patrick
I have Choice Digital Wireless, and we have a local ABC affiliate and we have a choice of a local NBC or NBC 4 out of New York as well as many other options. Check them out at http://www.choice.vi/
Well I talked with an owner of a satellite TV company down here. This is what he had to say. All of the satellites are pointed at North America because there are way more customers. Meaning to get signal down here you have to mount a pretty good size antenna to get signal. Installation is roughly $600. My suggestion is go withthe local cable company, it might get setup right away or like me it might take 2 months+ Depends on where you are living but it is cheaper for install and monthly charges.
Does anyone know or have any experience with the satellite dishes on a boat - the kind that track the satellite as you move? I'd like to keep my Dish subscription when I get there, but I'll be living on a boat and am curious about the reliability of service.
