First World problem, I know. But just a heads up that they told me yesterday there are no technicians on island and won't be until the 14th. Customer service will blindly make appointments for dates before that because the right hand does not know what the left hand is doing. But nobody will actually show up.

If you're on STX, call Paradise Satellite. They are a DISH Network authorized dealer and tech.

Yeah, they called for me while I was on the line.

I removed my dish before the storm myself. After we got power restored I reinstalled the dish, and plugged in the box. Took 5 minutes to reboot itself and then we were up and running.

In the first few minutes of watching the weather channel I saw some clown tell everyone, "if Irma just tracks a little bit more south, all these little islands in the Caribbean will break it up a little bit before it hits Florida". I Immediately considering disconnecting it again 😉

Seriously though:
I'm glad I went for the dish now, I would think cable will be down for quite a while in some spots.

Dish is fine. Your box probably isn't older than dirt. That's what they were coming to replace. 🙂

What I'm missing is the @*@%& Pitt PSU game. I'm getting geo-blocked everywhere. Can't find a stream that let's me get in with Dish login. Downloaded 2 proxy apps - neither of which works. So, got disgusted and we're now streaming the audio. But it's just not the same. Rum is starting to ease my angst though.

Like I said, 1st world problems.

We just got our power on, hooked up the DISH Receiver. The fan ran, but no lights started up. We did all the trouble shooting to no avail.

So, I called DISH - They went through all the trouble shooting with me too. I told them all the precautions we did prior to the hurricane. They were very sympathetic, and agreed that our machine had "died", they are sending us another DISH Receiver. Normally, there is a $35 shipping fee, but it was waived because they want to help their customers who just went through this traumatic experience of Hurricane Irene (that's what they said). Try giving them a call or chat with them through their website if you need help.

Gee,what a clever idea! Why didn't I think to call?

Oh, wait .. . calling was the first thing I did. They're the ones who made the appointment. She did check her "hurricane procedures" and waived all charges.

When the appointment never happened, I did online chat. This guy did not check the technician availability. Was told I could reschedule or email the hub directly, because he couldn't contact them directly (?), and he gave me the email address link. I said I'd email and he ended the chat just as I clicked on the email link, which didn't work.

Soooo, I called again. This rep put me on hold and made calls to determine what was going on. She's the one who told me there was no tech on island. She did give me a credit for the expected down time.

So yes, I've called, chatted, and called again. Adding insult to injury - I got the blast email a few hours after that last call that they sent with Florida in mind, telling me that they stood ready to help and to call them (at the same number I used) if I had any problems.

Big procedural/communications Fail for Dish, IMO.
