DirecTV on STX - Does it exist?
We are still seeing the advertising for DirecTV on STX. Does anyone have this service? How is it? What was the initial set up cost? What channels do you receive?
Any information would be helpful.
(We had DISH and absolutely loved it, but we have moved to a new location and no longer have a dish. SkysTheLimit, how much would a dish and set up cost to continue with DISH?)
I have seen the office in Peters Rest nest to Coca Cola
Search the board lots of discussion of Dish vs Direct. Dish is not the same as on the mainland. What you get here is Latin American package.

Correction:
Direct is not the same here and is Latin America.
Meow,
Call me so we can discuss options. Lots of changes recently and more improvements coming for Dish Network customers.

Dish Network's (Echostar's) plans to launch sat 119 replacement seems on schedule for Jan 2010. It will have spotbeams for PR and the VI and should be online about march 2010. This means much better signal strengths and more HD content.
Getting excited:@)
Meow,
I know someone that wants to sell his 4 ft dish because he moved where there was already a dish and doesn't need it any more.
It comes with a wall/roof mount. It has a bit of corrosion but is still fine. He'd take a couple hundred for all of it.
I'm not advertising, but I just wanted to publicly thank "SkysTheLimit" again for helping us out with our TV dilemma. Not only did he find a used Dish for us to purchase, but he came out and installed everything immediately. We spoke on the phone yesterday morning, and we had Dish service by noon.
Prompt. Courteous. Dependable. And, he got the job done!
You're welcome. Enjoy!
They started operation october 2009 at Peter's Rest. We payed for the service and they sent a technician to install the dish (after about 6 reschedules which took about 2 weeks). Once the dish was installed, me and my spouse could not believe what we were seeing. Not only was it mainly a Latin America programming, the reception was horrible. We didnt know if we could even qualify the reception as standard definition talk less of HD. We called them the next day asking why it was not HD and they stated that they only have standard definition.
We were so irate we had them remove it the next day and had Dish Network installed by another technician. Not only do we pay less than 100 bucks for everything we have countless HD channels and are extremely happy about the service.
I hear similar stories all the time.
Recently I was in an establishment that has both Dish and Direct due to the NFL "ticket". They had the same game on with 2 identical TVs and the DirecTV picture was very soft and grainy. Almost pixcellated. Looks to me that DirecTV is trying to get too many channels on each transponder which might be effecting pic. quality.
Did they give you a hassle about your 24 month DirecTV contract??
My DirecTV signal is actually clear and strong but there's no doubt I would get more with Dish or even Innovative when it comes to number of channels. DirecTV is cheapest for setup and in my case the only option to watch my football team. Now that the season is over with just playoffs I'll run my numbers to see if I return to Innovative cable or move up to Dish (my issue is that I'll end up canceling DirecTV every year and then reactivating each year for 3-4 months of football - it's going to get costly.)
G2G, what is your team? With Dish you can now get local networks out of NY, Chicago (HD), LA (HD), and SF. That gives you A LOT of games. If your team is from any of those markets you will get all their games. You may be able to even check the schedule beforehand and determine how many games you'd miss if you skipped the Sunday ticket and bought all 4 network markets on Dish instead. I missed about 4 'skins games this year using that model but that was mostly because a)they are horrible and b)they started off with such a weak schedule that no one wanted to carry those games. For those 4 games I either went to Sharkey's or watched over the internet (I have a friend who hooked up a SLingbox in DC for me).

They couldn't hassle me about the contract 'cos it had only been a few days plus there was a 30 day "return' guarantee that made it possible for us to return the dish and cancel the contract.:-)

Really? My only beef with Dish is the inability to get local networks. Please educate me on how I can get the local networks. Thanks in advance.
Networks from All American Direct are not "local" They are only local to NY, Chi, LA, and San Fran. They are considered distant networks to us here.

If you want local VI networks you'll need to get them "off air". That means a TV antenna. If your TV isn't digital capable you'll need a analog to digital signal converter, too.

Sorry, I should've just said "major networks" not "local networks." They are only local if you are in Chicago, NY, LA, or SF I guess 🙂
Sean
Easy mistake.
Everyone refers to networks as the local channels.
Just wanted to be clear that you won't get local but you can get networks. In HD if you don't mind a Chicago feed.
FYI Local networks show many, many more Infomercials.
