Direct flights from Miami, Atlanta or Charlotte to STX???
Been planning another trip to STX, thinking about September, but when I check flights from Louisville or Nashville, I'm not finding any that go directly to STX (skipping San Juan). In the past we've had no trouble finding those direct flights. Does anyone know of any direct flights, i.e. a certain day of week, etc., that they might be available. Due to a horrible experience several years ago, we will not fly vis the San Juan airport. Thanks to anyone who might have helpful info.
Might just be seasonal? I have no problem with puerto rico or miami either one works .
How many years ago was your issue
There are daily flights from Miami to STX and others from Atlanta and Charlotte and others that are more seasonal, may only be on certain days or weekends in low season. Schedules change, you just have to check. September/October is the bottom of the season. If you are really in a bind you can go to STT and take the puddle jumper to STX.
I think the AA Charlotte direct is only on Saturdays.
The direct from Atlanta (on Delta) is on Saturdays only - mid-December, they add Wednesday (and Saturday) to their direct to and from STX.

When were you able to find flights to STX non stop from louisvillev or Nashville? I have never ever seen that route as a non stop flight.

Just flew STX to Miami on American.
The SJU airport has been remodeled and is much nicer than it used to be.
The Saturday only Delta flight stops in August and will pick up again in December. It will be 7 days a week from December 17- January 7, then Wednesdays and Saturdays after that.
Thanks to everyone who has replied. I have done some more looking and have now found a couple of direct flights that may work for us. Just another one of those things that makes visiting STX "interesting."

If it is possible to search previous posts, I had a lengthy post about our trip that had problems both coming and going re flights. In a nutshell, our flight to SJU was late, our connector airline to STX was uncooperative, and we nearly would up staying the night in the SJ airport simply because of rude and unhelpful people. Probably not the normal experience but it was our experience, and we still haven't forgotten it.
St Croix. Ya really gotta want it. If it was easy to live here everybody would be doing it!
I'm sure just about every travel scenario that could happen has happened. Many/most itineraries go as planned. Unfortunately sometimes not for varies reasons, mostly unpredictable and can suck if your on one of those for vacation. But even those don't usually ruin a vacation. We got stuck getting out of Miami to STX on one trip. It was a while back, I think it was lightning delay and I think our outbound flight was cancelled. We were lucky to quickly rebook a later flight to SJU and then AA Eagle to STX. We got in late in SJU, something like 10-11PM, Airport was pretty empty. We had to run run run to the AA Eagle gate where they were waiting for us with the door open. Of course we got into STX rather late, got luggage (at least the luggage all made it on that trip), got rental car, pulled into Carambola (had called them earlier to leave the light on for us) under the stars. Could have been worse a hundred different ways.
My all time not-so-favorite was on our first trip to STX. We were stuck there an extra 23 hours when a rubber band broke on our Delta flight (replacement gumband only available in the states). 14 of those (precious daylight) hours were spent in the terminal, as TSA would not re-screen us for that flight if we left. Regatta was going on, so when Delta finally admitted they were cancelling the flight, most of the passengers had to double up with strangers wherever they could find to stick us. Got to Carambola at 9pm (they kept the kitchen bar menu open for us!) and taxi picked us up at 4 am the next morning. When we got to the airport, our substitute flight on Cape Air was delayed another 2 hours. All those extra hours in Paradise, and not one trip back to the beach. Just airport, taxis and hotel at night. Why we came back, I'll never know. Just glad that we did.
