Differences in hospitals on STX & STT - advice about preparing for meetings with recruiters
I plan to work at either Juan F. Luis Hospital in STX or Roy Lester Schneider Hospital in STT starting this summer or fall. I am going to visit both islands and see how I like each but I am open to either island.
Are there big differences between Juan F. Luis and Roy Lester Schneider? I heard that the hospital on STX is a little larger. I believe their program for new graduate nurses is a bit more comprehensive on STX. But the hospitals themselves are they pretty comparable? Would one be more modern, have more departments, etc.? Has anyone that has worked at both have any advice?
Also I am very informally meeting with nurse recruiters. This is NOT an interview but a meeting and a tour and I will hand over my resume. I am wondering how I should dress. Sorry if this seems silly but I am coming from an island and going to an island. I am a student now so I wear scrubs or yoga clothes and hospital shoes or flip-flops. All my winter clothes I left in CA including any pantsuits I may have. Obviously I am not going to wear yoga clothes or scrubs but is a pants suit too formal? Open toed shoes OK? I'll have to go shopping but I would like to know what is appropriate for the USVI environment. Anything else I should know about meeting with the nurse recruiters. I am kind of putting all my eggs in one (actually two) basket(s). So I want it to go very well. Feel free to post here of course or message me on the board or email me at chanelcinq@gmail.com
By the way I am so glad I found this message board. It always takes a while to locate local resources and I was using the Couch Surfing message boards and not getting far. You guys are awesome and thank you for your help. This is exactly what I was looking for. I was having fun scanning the "Community" section and checking out all the potential activities that are offered.
from what i hear, people tend to dress nice for interviews.
A pantsuit would be appropriate, with a unrevealing blouse/shirt (ie no shoulders showing if you take if your jacket). Also, I Think a jacket could be optional if your shirt/pants are nice enough. I would also wear close toe shoes--some of the more formal island folks think it's inappropriate to wear open toe dress shoes. Your recruiters may not be super formal but better to be safe than sorry.
No open toed shoes. That is good to know. I may have to go shoe shopping as well.
You can never go wrong in the VI by dressing formally. I mean, really, this is a place where the DMV will turn you away if you don't have your shoulders covered and where women still wear huge, floppy hats to church! Even though this is not officially an interview, they'll probably still be judging you the way they would if it were an interview. Wear a suit or something similarly nice.
