Thanks for sharing janeinstx...
P.S. Good photo of the west refinery... I can see #5 Crude Unit, #3 Vacuum Unit, #3 Platformer, the low pressure flare, and on the background, STX's tallest structures, the Coker Unit drums... I wish I was there, again...
You will be Rowdy802...you will be.

This would be the East Refinery, wouldn't it?
Well there you go...at least some sort of announcement was made on April 23 as we had heard was forthcoming.
This is all good news for sure.
You will be Rowdy802...you will be.
Thanks...

Yes it is the EAST... I tripped over the keyboard as I was in a hurry on the phone talking to someone inside Hovensa...

sooo... you have "insider" information?
sooo... you have "insider" information?
I have a bit after speaking with 3 people that work in Hovensa... I am trying to get "heavier" information from a 4th...
Finally there is an electronic link for the article...

The site tours are important, but the inspections will be much more important as that will give them a glimpse of the actual condition of the equipment. I hope they kept a good nitrogen purge in the pressure vessels. If the purge is lost the vessel will likely be junk. A big concern also will be the random insulation stripping on vessels and piping.
In other words, nothing.
Justice, I'm curious - will you be happy or disappointed if something does happen with hovensa?
I would be ecstatic if the refinery reopened as a refinery tomorrow. What I won't be is led on until the December election by DeJongh, Sanes, or Fritz. And I deal not in rumors, but facts. (See my previous posts about the dastardly(WTO rules violating) Diageo deal as well as this agreement which rewards Hovensa to delay a sale by cutting their taxes while our infrastructure crumbles, and lets Hovensa operate a stand alone storage facility.
You guys are as easy as a drunk coed if all it takes is a photo of a shuttered refinery on the front page of a newspaper and a road-funds-stealing governor to promise you that he has secret buyers that you will learn about in 8 months.
seems like you have a good point there.
Anything can have a potential buyer.
What's needed is an actual one.
In other words, nothing.
It turns out I have more than plenty of information... I am no longer posting much on these boards as I mentioned before... and I have to be careful with what I post here because I still work in the Petrochemical Industry. Now that the article came out I can confirm I had gotten the rumor in November '13 and got a solid confirmation with a company name at the end of January of '14.
The article makes it sound like there are "many" interested... While correct, it doesn't mention that only one is seriously interested while the "other" ones are just curious and casually looking into it... Of course, they can't say that...
The lone serious buyer is super interested but the condition of the equipment and the structure will turn out to be a deciding factor. Since I know the condition on said items is far from good, I will still remain optimistic. I've seen solid deals go south, and crazy deals go forward.
I will share one secret... If the plan goes forward, most of the cars will come out of a dealership and the rest from car rental companies (very few from the airport for obvious reasons and the few that do will be short term contracts.)... There, I said to much... Bye!
Since I know the condition on said items is far from good, I will still remain optimistic.
well that seems like a pretty significant "hang up"; what little I know from brief brushes with the Alaskan oil industry tells me that a plant sitting without constant maintence is a very bad thing, pressure tanks need to maintain pressure, lines need to be checked, seals maintained etc.....
were you to put a ratio on your optimisticpessimistic tendencies, what would it be? 6040? 8020?
In Hovensa's case, because of the "enthusiasm" of the buyer is about 50/50, IMHO... They are looking at the bigger picture... Hovensa is custom made to process sour crude oil...
Thanks for the update Rowdy802!
Thanks for the update Rowdy802!
You are welcome... Just trying to make sense out of a mess full of rumors.. fingers crossed..
Ran into a hovensa maintence worker this weekend at Lost Dog, he said they were preparing for inspectors, I think this week.
That part is true.
If Miss Justice says it so...it must be so.
Well, it seems like someone brought 1500 people to the island from January to March for the Hovensa turnaround. Here is confirmation of that: http://www.targetlogistics.net/turnarounds_case-study.php.

That is old... Most turnarounds are planned by keeping in mind the season of the year to ensure you get the benefit of comfortable temperatures and favorable weather... In the mainland most T/As (Major turnarounds) happen during spring and fall... In the Caribbean it is winter and spring...
That company was used for the Coker/FCC T/A of a few years back... The link is accurate on the event, but has absolutely nothing to do with the ongoing "Hovensagate"... Notice that a year is not mentioned... The number of 1500 people is inflated...
I wish these threads would go away. The only reason I bothered to reply was to immediately put a stopple on misleading information...

I appreciate your contributions Rowdy. I like conjecture as much as the next person but it's nice to have some facts too.
Anyone hearing anything ?
