DHL shipping?
Does anyone have experience with DHL shipping to St. Thomas or St. John?
Specifically, how reliable are their quoted delivery times, or how much time should I add to their online delivery quote? I'd like to get something delivered to Cruz Bay to coincide with my arrival but if there is a more reliable pickup anywhere on St Thomas I'd consider that.
Thanks!
Charlie
just wondering , can this item be shipped by usps instead of one of those services? would be probably much cheaper
As long as it's not foreign made and must go thru Customs prior to delivery, you're probably good to go. I only have experience with UPS and FedX. Delivery to STJ may take longer as it comes to STT, first, then requires a barge or ferry trip to STJ. You should conatct their VI office (do they have one?) and inquire.
There was a post recently by Pia (?) about the person who handled deliveries in STJ closing shop. Can't truly remember the post or if it had to do with UPS?FEDX?etc. Sorry.
Thanks for the replies - it is foreign made but has been in use in the US for a year. I'll just have it down on St John for a couple weeks and return it by boat - but I guess neither of those reasons will simplify or reduce customs fees or delays and if anything might make things worse! I've got a DHL rep to talk with but they are not local so I don't know if they really understand St John vs St Thomas or anything about the local customs or island time!
DHL quote shows three days for delivery and no difference St. Thomas or Cruz Bay. I'm guessing that is at least off by a day for customs and maybe another day or more to deliver to Cruz Bay ... but real world experience would be better than my guess!

Maybe it would be best to call Customs here in STT and ask them.
If it's foreign made and has to be cleared thru customs, there'll more than likely be a fee as well as up to a week delay in delivery before DHL even gets their hands on it.
