Dentist (periodontist) wanting to relocate to STX.
Hi I like to introduce myself , I am a dentist in Florida actually a Periodontist ( gum specialist ). I just bought a place in STX and I am seriously considering presenting the USVI dental boards so that I can also work in paradise. In the times that I have gone there I have grown to love the island, it's people and the way of life.
This process of the boards will take at least until next JUNE 2007 since that's when I plan to take them. After that is done then I'll figure out how to get started.
I would like to get some feedback mainly from islanders on the present need for these kind of services.
Are there any periodontist in the island already?
I just found this site tonight and I think it is great. I look forward to hearing from any of you as this will help me set sail on this new life adventure for me
Thank you
Carlos
Carlos,
Speaking only for myself and without general knowledge of what the island needs, I would appreciate having a good Periodontist on island. Prior to moving here this past January, my Periodontist in the states researched my options for periodontal work on St. Croix. He could only recommend one in Puerto Rico or for me to travel back to the States. I'm not sure if that meant there aren't any Periodontists on St. Croix or just none that he would recommend. Good luck.
In the current Yellow Pages, I see one periodontist listed on STT, and nowhere else. She is Oswaldene Elaine Walker DDS MS, Periodontics and Oral Medicine, 340-715-3040, email: wellnessctr at islands dot vi.
The 2004 Settler's Handbook lists no periodontists in the VI.
Thank you for your responses, This insight makes making decision easier. I tried e-mailing Dr. Walker in STT but e-mail never went thru for whatever reason. As a matter of fact when I first went to the VI , I stayed at Bolongo Beach resort very close to her practice but I did not attempt to reach her at that time. In any case I spoke to a general dentist in STX but he did not mention her. He did mention that people either go to Puerto Rico or the States.
I would also like to hear from general dentist in the island and see what they would have to say. In any case I do plan to get my license there.
Thank you
Carlos
Carlos: Try calling Donald Pomeranz, DDS 340- 775-1826.
Thanks I will give Dr. Pomeranz a call. I'll be going to STX tomorrow for the weekend.
By the way my name is Carlos Maiz
