Delta
Our daughter is coming to visit and she just called and said she had to pay $15 for 1 checked bag.
Isn't it $25.00 on some airlines?
American Airlines is 25.00
Sauceress
I knew American was doing it but didn't know about Delta.
American is only $15 for the first bag and charges go up after that. Unless you are in first class then there is no charge.
American Airlines, Delta Airlines and United Airlines all have the same baggage policy (according to their websites):
$15 for the first checked bag
$25 for the second checked bag
I thought that was for the 2nd bag. I thought the 1st bag is $10.
Oops You are right Divinggirl the 25 dollars was for the second bag when we wnt on our cruise . No charge for the first bag last year
This from the Delta site:
When traveling within the United States, U.S. Virgin Islands, or Puerto Rico, customers who purchased a ticket on or after November 6, 2008, will be charged $15 for the first checked bag and $25 for the second checked bag.
• When traveling to or from cities outside the United States you can check two bags, per passenger, free of charge.
• You can refer to the chart below for exceptions to this policy.
If you have additional bags to check, you may be charged excess baggage fees.
Each bag must:
• Weigh 50 pounds (22.5 kg) or less.
• Not exceed 62 inches when you total length + width + height.
At least the planes at Delta are much nicer than American.

I veryify the charges everytime I book a ticket. The airlines are changing their baggage policies frequently. I have now heard rumors that some are contemplating charging for carry on items as well. So far nothing has appeared on the airlines websites to support that rumor. I have a friend in the industry that has said that soon we will all have to travel naked due to baggage and security issues!
Good morning:
Most of the Airlines do charge fees for checked luggage.
Southwest Airline is one of the few that doesn't - unfortunately, they don't fly to STT.
even Cape Air charges fee for lug gages......
Also be careful on the carry-ons.
The size and weight limit there, too depending on the airlines - of course.
Best to check each carrier that you are flying on to get down there. (check the rules before you purchase)
Air Tran that flies to San Juan from Atlanta - they are picky and will charge extra if you have more than 1 carry on plus a purse.
Unless you are flying on business/1st class.
Air Tran do have a good option at the ticket counter - if there is a seat available, you can upgrade.
So does American on kiosk check in. If there are any seats available to upgrade, it will offer it to you.
Sometimes, it is better to pay extra to sit in first class and be more comfortable - get free drinks, than paying for luggage fees.
On AA, you only have to upgrade one portion - to get luggage fee waived - i.e. connection flight from STT to DFW, I upgraded from STT to MIA, checked two piece of luggage all the way through to DFW without any fees.
I think i paid like $100.00 - so I paid $60.00 more (compared to what they were going to charge me for two pieces of luggage at $40.00), but got more leg room, comfortable seat, free drinks, was it worth $60.00 - Wished it was from MIA to DFW as well.......
Needless to say, bit disappointing ride from MIA to DFW .............in the coach seat.
Not 100% sure how DELTA works - I will find out in March - about upgrade stuff - but I know for sure they do charge for checked luggage and there are limits on carry on, as well - Back to the original topic.
Oh! Naked Air - here we come. (seriously)
Are they still in business?
I think they were flying from Mia to Cancun???
After a little bit of research I bought new carry-on luggage from High-Sierra last fall. I can't say enough great things about it. The main rolling piece is the maximum allowed for carry-on and it has a zippered backpack that easily attatches. With the backpack attatched it does exceed the limit by a few inches. I was never called on the extra few inches when I flew to Italy or when I returned to STT. They did make me unzip it at the San Francisco airport and put the backpack portion with my other carry-on that was allowed. It's so much easier to travel with carry-on only, you can print your boarding passes online and simply go through security without the wait in the check-in lines. They are very durable and only cost me $89 plus shipping.
