I read about a deer hunting season in ST Thomas but there was very little on it.
I would love to have a freezer full of venison. Any input?

There aren't that many deer left so no hunting. Last time I saw one on St. Thomas was about 4 years ago and before that maybe 10 years. The ones on St. John are usually in the National Park.

Islander: You need to get out to the east end more often! 😉 While deer are not spotted THAT frequently, I have had a couple of sightings in the last six months. One afternoon saw a BIG buck and two smaller deer and early one morning, saw what appeared to be a young deer in the Vessup Bay road. He was very confused, but everyone, includng a taxi man stopped to let him decide where he wanted to go- toward Montessori school. A couple of years ago a man was questioned by the police when he was discovered with a carcass. He said it was a goat, the police thought it was a deer and wanted to arrest him. The older people talk about hunting deer and pigs in the old days... I suspect that we will see fewer deer as the fences go up and the bush gets cut... 🙁

Yes, no more deer season. Back in the 60s they were plentyful! Too bad that the island growth has slowed down their multiplication!

saw a few out on Great St James a few weeks ago. Have also seen them on Thatch.
They say they swim out to the outer islands to breed. Have also seen them swimming from lindquist to thatch.

I have stayed at Cabrita Point in the fall of last year and saw deer (buck and two does) 5-6 nights we were there. I thought they were more plentiful than this email indicates. Also heard of them swimming to the different islands. Sounded strange but interesting.

East Ender, I am not out on the East End to often and that is where I have seen them usually in the evening or early morning.

SKT the last time I saw them it was out by Cabrita Point area and there were several together like you saw; it was evening time as well. I also saw one laying in the bushes/grass close to Bolongo Bay in the early morning on another day. I used to see them somewhat often in other areas of the island besides where they are seen today which is basically just East End's Vessup/Cabrita Point/Bolongo and closeby areas so as Ronnie said there aren't as many as there were years ago. If you are out on the East End then you will likely see them, if you are in other areas where they used to be plentiful you don't see them much if at all anymore.
