Daysail trips to Buck Island-STX & Question about original Daydreamer

Does anyone have a recommendation for a daysail (half or full) out to Buck Island (STX)? I may check the travel message board too, but wondering if anyone offers a local discount or if you have a personal experience, etc.

Also...I know Daydreamer went down in Omar. Was she restored and is she in service? My husband used to captain her when she was on St. Thomas, so that would be our first choice, if she is in service.

My kids are on island, and we are going to play tourist!:-)

If they have spots available, most boats offer discounts to the members of your party who have local ID. I know Big Beard does. I'd call around.

Big Beard offers a great discount AFTER the first trip. No discount for the first one, but it sounds like a good day.

Juanita--we go out with Mile Mark (now Caribbean Sea Adventures) with skipper JP on the Wavedancer. Totally the best choice in my opinion. Miles may give a local discount if you ask (and don't want them to provide lunch). Daydreamer, which they used to have and got sunk during Omar, is no longer. Miles didn't have enough insurance on it (so I'm told) to bring it back.

JP is a gem--he's been on island for 15 years and to me, is the best guide out there.

If you have 5 or 6 people then I would recomend Carl on Dragonfly. They have a 1/2 day trip for $510 dollars. You will have the boat to yourself. He is a great guy and is really good with kids or anyone who is new to snorkeling. The best part is that you have the boat to yourself. I am sure that the others offer a great experience. ( I have tried a few but not all) but being on a boat that is yours for the day ( okay 1/2 day) Well it is nice. Don't think they offer a discount. But you said you are going to play tourist. Sure the kids would enjoy!!!!

We've used BigBeards each time we've been on island... just because it worked the first time, and now we've gotten to know the folks that work there. Never any problems.

We did the full day once, thinking that we'd get more Buck-time. It was not worth it. The half day seems like the best deal, but you never get enough time at Buck.

The first time we went to Buck, we were so awe stuck that we couldn't really take it all in. So, having the discount on the 2nd trip with BigBeards was a real plus.

I've done Mile Marker and Big Beard. Mile Marker's guide was great but I really like Big Beard new boat with the glass bottom for the non snorkelers and it also has an electric engine for when they enter the coral area. The locals discount is nice and the staff are always friendly and informative. I've only ever done the half day and it does feel a bit rushed when you finally get beach time.
