I don't think that you can compare a terrorist act with street crime.

I have been living on island (STX) for about five years now. I guess I have been lucky so far. I do however, have friends who have been robbed, some at gun point!!! I realize that there is a lot of drug on drug violence here, but these people could not be farther from the drug scene.

I do love STX and don't want to live anywhere else (for the moment), but I guess it is sad that I feel lucky that I haven't been mugged since moving here.

There is a price for living in paradise, one thing we can do is support the police (however incompetent they can be sometimes) and support crime stoppers, crime watch, etc.

According to what I read in the paper (or thought I did) two ladies were hit by "stray" bullets during the incidents. One was in line at KFC drive through (STT) and the other appeared to be turning in the drive through.

Yeah, you can. I just did. 🙂 To my mind, those thugs are terrorists in their own way.

Actually the thugs can be worse than terrorist.
Terrorist generally do one thing really big to grab attention & reap in its glories (sick as they are)
Thugs are a constant daily terror where you can not even enjoy life in any form due to fear.
Terrorist plan for weeks & months for their plots and have a selected target. Thugs are emotional, trigger happy animals shooting everything, targeted or not. Terrorist generally do evil in the name of their twisted religion. Thugs do it for the shear pleasure and self promotion......they think they are Gods.......small minds & Big guns are a terrible combo!

It's possible to reason with a thug, with a terrorist it is not.

Sorry Trade, you are comparing apples to oranges, albeit it is all sour fruit.

If you really are that terrified of thugs, try my earlier suggestion of becoming proactive.
