Daily Life on St. Johns
I have lived in Aspen after college and did the corporate later stuff for the last 15 years. I am wanting to come to St. Johns and get a job in water sports. I have money for rent but just curious what the nightlife or evening activites are like on the island. Is there a young contingency that likes to go to the local pubs etc? Or is it kids out of college then married people?
I was hoping to work for a company like Cruz Bay Watersports. When is the best time to arrive before all jobs are filled? I am looking at coming in August.
Thanks however I just don't want to be bored going home every night. Maybe St. Thomas is a better work and play island?
St. John (no "S") is a great place. So is STT. Highly recommend a PMV so you can choose the one that suits you best.
If you come in August you stand a much better chance of finding someplace to live. However the quandry is that August - Nov (up until Thanksgiving) is the slow season so the jobs will be scarce. If you have enough money to live on for a couple of months the Sept/Oct timeframe is a good time to come down.
Hello,
You will find during season that the regular club crowd are 20-25 year old seasonal workers and during the summer its college kids home for vacation. There are 30-somethings, but they are more in the married group then the party, club hopping group. The bars in Cruz Bay have happy hour which are usually the starting point for hanging out for the evening. There is always a couple dozen folks pouring out of Woodys bar in Cruz Bay at any random happy hour during the year. You might find you are hanging with the same people at the same places as the population is small and the bar choices are limited.
As mentioned if you plan to come in August have enough money to possiable carry you for a couple months as August/September are the slow of the slow season. Season picks up again in late October/November and runs through till around May.
