I have renters coming in November for two weeks and they don't want to rent a car for the whole duration of their stay.
They would like to know about daily car rentals, if it is affordable and available in St. Croix
and about water taxis to the other islands.
Could you please give me the information so I can advise them.
They are going to rent my condo.
Thank you.

The only water taxi on STX goes to HOTC in C'sted harbor.

Daily car rentals are certainly available however a few of those will pay for a week.
You can get rentals in downtown C'sted and I think at Carambola and the Buc and some if not all agency's will probably bring a car to you at the other resorts. Centerline has free delivery to select hotels but don't know how keen they are on doing that for 1 day rentals. Best things is to call the local offices and ask. You can get local numbers from stcroixthisweek.com

Last I read the new trans-Caribbean water ferry planned for the STX-STT route is still undergoing sea trials. Coast guard wants to make sure it wont sink in the rough seas before letting passengers go. Perhaps they are waiting for some real rough weather for the ultimate test. It's a new design that hasn't been built before.

I don't lnow how long they will be on STx but some of the car rentals have $99 for a 3 day rental.

The best thing to do is to check with your CC company. My Chase Sapphire card gives me pretty big discounts on Avis and a couple others so I get $25 day rates for pretty much anywhere. I got $12 a day in South Africa and recently $10 for London. It was awesome.

I think I am going to bite the $450 annual fee bullet and get the new Chase Sapphire Reserve card. HUGE benefits for hotels, rental cars, airport lounges and 1K sign up bonus with 3 points per $1 spent. Its a good deal for sure... just that $450. Ouch.

The ferry is still not running. I haven't seen it doing a sea trial in at least a month. I think something wrong with it, I wouldn't take it personally. You can find cheap flights to STT for about $120. In fact I've always found $89 fares for when I want to go but my dates are flexible and I book well in advance. Seaplane is all I use anymore unless cape air has a super fare.

If they want to test in rough water... the next few days will be a perfect time lol. I think its gonna get a little nasty. So much for my al fresco dinner party.
