cute story
Just returned from K-Mart. A young boy in front of me only had $1 for a bottle of H20, the young checker let him go, "we'll find a quarter for you". I had one and told her thanks, she responded with "he was thirsty, it was water. If it had been candy I would've told him he didn't have enough." She'll make a good mother someday if she sticks to her guns.

😎 - super cool!
Nice story.
There are so many friendly people here.
The other day an older man walked over to help me load my kayak on top of the car.
Chat ensued. Turns out he was a retired VI cop and plays in a local band.
Beats the experience I had at the St George Botanical Gardens yesterday morning.
I was one of about 6 people who showed up for their plant sale at the advertised time of 10 am,
only to be -gruffly- told by the volunteer that they weren't going to open until 11.
Standing there with my teenage daughter, I then twice offered our services to help carry plants and help setup,
--and was flat-out ignored. Not even a "no thanks." Was really taken aback by the episode.
Neil, where is he St George Botanical Gardens?
My guess STX as I never herd of it(could be wrong).
I saw a ad in the Daily News, was going to attend, just don't know where it is.
And the episode, welcome to STT (too bad it is like this many times).
The Botanical Gardens are on STX. I've always had good experiences there. Guess there are always a few bad apples, even in a botanical garden. Sorry, couldn't resist the pun.
DUN: Linda's right, one bad apple doesn't spoil it. I would recommend going there.
The St George Botanical Garden on StX has a rainforest walk, lots of old ruins, and a nice little museum. It's blooming like crazy right now and it's a great way to quickly become acquainted with the names of tropical plants and trees. I have attended various events there, have brought visitors there, and was looking forward to supporting their fundraising plant sale, ==all of which made Saturday's experience disappointing, especially since the volunteer could have handled it 10 other more gracious ways, and my daughter was there with me to buy something for her mom.
As I get older, increasingly I have an inability to hide my incredulity.
What we need are more people like Cathy's water bottle story.
It takes all kinds to make a community.
I had my own weird encounter this morning on the way to work. I'm in my little old Suzi cruising up company street following a big white Toyota v8 4dr pickup. They slowed to turn right at the corner by the church (where they have been digging up the street and must have spotted the barricades further down, so they stopped mid turn. Next thing I know the reverse lights go on. I gave them a few toots on the horn but they just kept backing up until they hit me. Then they just drove off as if nothing had happened!
I was too stunned to even get a plate number, and besides Suzi is an old girl and a scrape on the bumper isn't going to negatively impact her net worth by much, so it wasn't worth chasing after them especially as they might have been packing a can or two of wasp spay :).
What was amusing was the street sweeper guy (always see him somewhere on company street about 7:15am each day) was standing right there at the corner and watched the whole episode. He couldn't believe it either. Like I said - it takes all kinds.
Yes, thank you for the story. I have grown to hate humanity. This is one of the things that has moving to usvi. When you find your paradise you can take anything
