Cushion Foam

Good Morning all.

I need to have some new couch cushions made for a rattan sofa that I've inherited. Any suggestions on where to buy the foam? I'm on St. John, but travel to St. Thomas for my mercenary needs on a regular basis. I did hear from one person that there is a fabric store in downtown Charlotte Amalie that sells it, but he couldn't tell me exactly how to get there and couldn't remember the name. Also, if anyone has suggestions on where to buy reasonably-priced indoor/outdoor fabric, I'd surely appreciate it.

Thanks!
Ashley

I believe Interiors in Ft Mylner sells foam, but I don't know about reasonably priced 😉

Probably not so much, but good to know. There gets a point of desperation. Thanks!

I live in So Cal, could probably find something reasonable here and ship it to you if you wanted. Do you know the specs of what you are looking for?

Rashly, they were probably referring to The Fabric Store. That's actually the name. What do you consider reasonably priced? I don't find their fabrics or notions over priced.

I've never bought cushion foam before, so I don't know what I mean by reasonably-priced. I guess it's besides the point really. I need couch cushions. I live on an island. I'll pay. I've been to A fabric store (maybe The Fabric Store, maybe not) in Charlotte Amalie that is on the same gade as D&G's bakery (I think that's the name)--- the gade right past Asfour. I felt like my friend was trying to give me directions to a place other than this, but I couldn't tell for sure. Is there another one?

Onthespot-- thanks so much for the offer! If I decide to get them off island, I'll put my mom or my travelin' boyfriend on the job.

There is a place - Lone Eagle - in Smith Bay but try one of the sailmakers. Try Custom Canvas - ask for Evelyn. You'll find the number in the phone book. She'll put in on a ferry for you more than likely.

Ashley, the place you went to was probably Rose's Crafts (or something like that - I know Rose's is part of the name). The Fabric Store isn't in "downtown Charlotte Amalie." It's, well, if you're not familiar with STT, it's very hard to describe where it is. It's on Goat Street, but of course the sign says something else!

If you post the measurements, I can go by there on Wed and see if they either have it or can cut to measure. I'm pretty sure they do, because many of the upholsterers buy fabric there, and I'm pretty sure I've seen some foam there.

PM me with your phone number, and I'll call you from there on Wed. The VI economy needs your business, so hopefully you can buy local!

Lone Eagle is not as customer service oriented as The Fabric Store. Just trust me on this.

Thanks for all of the help and suggestions!

I did manage to find the upholstery guy in Savan. I don't know how many times I've driven the blocks around The Fabric Store and NEVER knew it existed. My friend took me right too it. What a charming shop! Of course, I couldn't look around since WAPA happened to be out that day, but now at least I know where to go. The women working did, however, inform me that they do not sell foam and that I needed to find Harry's in Savan. I knew he was near Weekes & Weekes so I went on that. Ended up going into the tailor shop nearby to ask if they knew where the guy was who sold the foam. Bless his heart, the tailor walked me straight to Harry's and even introduced us. Harry's Upholstery, located just past the marketplace pavilion, sort of behind that mini-mart, if I remember correctly. It was an adventure, to say the least. Eddie has all his prices written down on dusty index cards in what looks to be a decades-old Rolodex. When I asked for a business card, he pointed me to a make-shift holder high up on the wall above the door-- luckily he had a few stuffed in there. Here's the info, in case anyone is interested. I don't think he's easy to find. "Harry's Upholstery" Open 10am to 1pm. 340-774-2484.
