Current Prices in the Virgin Islands 2016
In season I have an abundance of fruit - avocado, coconut, breadfruit, sousop, passion fruit, papaya, mango and banana.
Rarely does any of it get harvested w/o my permission by fruit thieves.
Commonly the people on my road do stop and ask if they can have some , particularly breadfruit - the Wapa crew came by with a cherry picker truck one year and got a truckload of breadfruit and then trimmed my trees for me away from the power lines.
After 36 years here in this house I no longer have a panoramic ocean view because the trees are so high. I called Hurricane Hugo the "Grand Pruning" but got more fruit the next few years than ever - I would have never done that to my trees but it opened up so much sunlight and spurred new growth.
I could never subsist on the food produced off this property but it is tasty when available.
The huge St John Bay trees also make the whole yard smell so good!
I'd love to have some Bay trees.
Gardenia and Jasmine are nice, too.
Fruit on my property come in waves, none or too much.
Luckily have family and friends to share in times of overabundance.
Thank you so much! I really didn't understand what the fuss was about so I just walked away XD. This was very helpful!
I'm so overjoyed how helpful everyone was! If this is how the locals are naturally, I'm looking forward to moving!
Here are some recent prices from the Food Center on St Thomas:

Thank you so much! BUTTER IS THAT MUCH?! I can find butter here for $1.59! Oy, the cost of that Haagen-Daz vanilla ice cream is going to kill me 😮
Yea dude BUT its the BEST damn ice cream you'll ever have! I don't really like ice cream and I'm lactose intolerant BUT on a super hot day after working in the ocean and beach all day with tourists - one of those little $10 pints taste like $10 of pure joy.
A pint of Haagen Dasz is $6.49 at Plaza East and Cost U Less. If you don't want additives like lecithin and carageenan in your ice cream, chocolate, vanilla or coffee Haagen Dasz is the way to go.
I nearly died recently when Plaza East started selling Three Twins for $3.49 a pint!!!!!!
I bought a bunch of it for the couple of months that they had it in stock. Now it's been about 3 weeks since they restocked.
I am praying they get more in.
OMG so good. Not only is it organic, and cheaper, the fat and sugar content is lower without any artificial ingredients.
Agreed - mine was always an impulse buy at Nidals market NS at $10 a pint. Still worth it.

What is wrong with lecithin and carageenan?
How did I know Sparty would have something to say?
It is widely believed that carrageenan is not digestible and has no nutritional value, and that it can cause inflammation, ulcerations and bleeding in the digestive system.
Here's one good article, there are more. carrageenan
Lecithin can cause diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain or fullness. It is not regarded to be as bad for you as carrageenan, but I still like to limit how much I ingest.
So given the choice between products with or without, I'll go without every time.
I love Haagen Dasz!
The best creaminess and flavor.
I've resigned myself to paying whatever it costs.
Did you know?
A tablespoon or two of vanilla ice cream can bring a pet's blood sugar back up after a epileptic seizure. You dont want additives in it.
My sister came over from St. John to shop today.
After returning from Florida to STJ and shopping on STT, she's always in shock over prices, particularly organic produce.
She's more shocked at STJ prices in general.
Carageenan has been eaten for centuries with no problems. That is ONE flawed study. Both carageenan and lecithin are natural. Lemme guess, the Food Babe says they are bad?
It's not just the Food Babe who says they are bad (tho her article was just about carfageenan) They do start out as natural products but it is what happens when they are processed that is not supposed to be so great for your body.
Google and you will find many many sources.
I'm not going to get into a pissing match with you about studies and which are flawed and which are not.
I'm just going to do what I feel is best for ME and limit my exposure to carrageenan and lecithin.
And for those who are interested in limiting their exposure, I recommend Haagen Dasz or the Three Twins - vanilla, chocolate or coffee. The ones with cookies and other stuff tend to have additives. And just about every other brand out there has one or both of those bad additives.

It's a conspiracy that the FDA, WHO and everyone who makes food is involved in... Apparently. Eat what you want, but when these brain dead activists start demanding change to foods I like, I will fight back. Going after the Girl Scouts for not capitulating to their demands to now use sugar from GMO beets or oil from GMO canola. Her latest stunt is going after Boar's Head because they use caramel color and MSG in certain products. Just wait, she will have an alternative on her website conveniently linked to her Amazon affiliate page. Her $1,000,000 house and monthly trips to St Bart's and St. Lucia aren't cheap.
Like I said it's not just the food babe there are lots of other sites with info saying they are not good for you. I'm done on this subject. To each his own.
Yes, to each their own, now if these food blogger activists just did that I would be ok.
Pueblo has Stone Ridge Ice Cream 48oz on sale last week and this week for $4.99.
Any 1gal milk $5.88. Bananas $.79/lb
We would walk around the middle-class neighborhoods near Cocoa FL and see loads of trees full of Oranges in the yards and Oranges all over the ground below. Just too much fruit for the owners to even bother with.
Pueblo's milk has been $5.xx for quite a while. I used to mostly get my milk from there until I switched to Nido.
Wasn't a Save-A-Lot grocery store supposed to open on St. Croix?
yeah, about a year or so ago along with something else. they have not broken ground yet .
soon come
