When you hear of any "land" deal in the usvi, think 5 to 10 years out. Because that's as quick as any big deal down here will happen. The islands love their red tape. Out of the ones you mentioned the distillery will probably happen the first.

What is this real estate housing building you're talking about?

The housing proposals were Southgate & another one was something in the Golden Rock area.
Golden Rock wanted to do affordable housing in townhouse form, larger single family homes, walking/bicycle paths, a store & some other all inclusive amenities like you'd find in the big gated communities of Florida. Last I heard it was still in the dream form.
There was also talk to do some sort of affordable housing F'sted.....but alas it's been file 13-ed or shoved in a drawer some where too....

The Rum factory received all the CZM Permits & is scheduled to break ground SOON.

The first phase is almost complete. The construction company from Colorado is about to pack up and another company will be heading in to start the second phase.

I believe I heard on the radio that "the next hold up" is due to the fact that the VI govt wants local paving companies to do the work, but the local paving companies don't have the proper equipment or enough asphalt, so they're waiting for them to get it and that's going to take a while. Any truth to that?

News of another road development.... the road crews on StX have been going CRAZY with asphalt over the last couple of weeks. They finally finished the east end road today. I hope the next time they rebuild the roads, they add BIKE LANES. Not for me, but for the real cyclists out there. More and more of them all the time. Somebody's going to get killed.

And Kudos to the Environmental Services Dept of the local govt... "the roadkill specialists"
Had an 8 point Buck dead by the side of the road in front of my house. Called Tuesday at 9 am, and the crew arrived by 9:30. I was shocked.

The cyclists are preparing for the St Croix Ironman, first Sunday in May. You see more of them this time every year.

I think sidewalks would be a better use of $$$.

Crowning the roads so the water doesn't sit in puddles, real drainage and sidewalks would make our roads so much better and last so much longer. Instead we'll just keep putting down asphalt that lasts a year before the potholes come back. While some of this may be lack of budget I think some of it is also due to lack of initiative/intelligence.

I hope we use local companies to pave the by-pass.
VIAPCO and VI Paving have all the equipment/asphalt needed to pave anything.
Talk about a shovel-ready stimulus package project....this fits the definition perfectly.
