Just curious if anyone on this board sells their services as a excursions to the cruise lines. I am trying to find out how the cruise lines price the excursions you can buy on board, do they charge what you tell them and then add a surcharge or do they build their profit into the price. For example if my service costs $100.00 per person, is that what they charge plus a convenience fee or do they upcharge the service for say $120.00 to make their profit off the deal. If anyone has any experience or knows anyone that has dealt with the cruise lines the info would be greatly appreciated.

I know someone who tried to do an excursion & was told upfront by Carnival Cruise Line that they'd make enough to live on but Carnival would make the real money. Take it for what it's worth. They tack on a LOT to the price is what I was told by another tour operator.

I am under the understanding that the dive operators who are the ones who get booked aboard ship, must not raise their rates and must kick back 30% to the cruise line. The ones that get the ones off the boat that sign up on their own get to keep all they charge.

I also have heard from different types of merchants that todays cruise passengers are much cheaper and tight fisted than in the past. Part of that is the economy but part of it is tha fact that the cruise lines have slashed their rates and a lower economic level of passengers are scraping together enough to go on a cruise but don't have much left over for buying except a few t-shirts or trinkets.
