Crime on STT
Hello, I am supposed to be coming to the island for an interview next month from Pennsylvania. I've been reading some of the stats on crime and just a little concerned. I've read some of the postings on this message board and not sure what to make of some of it. Since you don't know who you are talking to, how does one know if it's being down played because of financial interests etc. Thanks, Donna
YOU CAN GOOGLE AND GET THE STATISTICS. PROBABLY THE HIGHEST IN AMERICA. MAKE SURE THAT YOU SEPARATE THE ISLANDS. That way it is your own research. The Daily News also is on line.
I live in St. Croix and we are not bothered by the high numbers. Life goes on or not....
cayennita, when you say you are not bothered by the high numbers, what do you mean by that?? i am bothered by such high numbers. i think it should be an outrage to most people. our murder rate last year was higher per capita than any ( or almost any ) us property and we ae going to surpass that record this year if we have not already.
I hate the high numbers but I "don't let them bother me". What I mean is, I go ahead and live my life while being appropriately cautious/aware of my environment. If you can't do that, you should reconsider a move here.
Assuming your interviewer lives here, I would ask her/him. See if you can ask other potential co-workers, too. The reported crime is one thing, and the un-reported crime is another. Not trying to scare you - just trying to make sure you get a variety of assessments.
That is a two way street "you don't know who your talking to"!:P

Yeppers, that's for sure!:@)

Hopefully she's not interviewing for a police job,
YOU CAN GOOGLE AND GET THE STATISTICS.
Anyone have a link? Other than the homicide rate, have any crime statistics been published since 2004?
