Has anyone tried a crib tents for a baby? Do they work?

Should I buy a crib tent or just a mosquito net bed canopy?

Had the crib tent, but unfortuately the holes in the mesh are large enough for mosquitoes to get in...my daughter woke up with 11 bites on her...I now hang a net over the crib, playpen, carseat, bed, etc...they are bad down here...Our house is open air with screens, but they hang out on the screens even after we spray them..if you have air cond. and keep the house closed up it isn't bad...
good luck!

We have a mosquito net canopy that so far (knock on wood), no mosquito has been able to breach. Just be sure that you get one long enough to hang to the bottom of the crib to the floor.
We got ours at Cost u Less.

I decided to go stateside for delivery. Now I am thinking about my return.

What obstacles should I be prepared for upon return?

get together with mommy groups for sure for support.
I love Dr. Mac at Red Hook family practice or Christine the nurse practioner. They are incredible! Tile floors are rough for sitting/crawling stage, but most the moms I know here get those colorful block letters that connect. They are like puzzle pieces???
Amazon.com or Toys r us, etc...I would stock up on next stage toys, etc in the states and ship them back or order online. There isn't much to choose from at Kmart and Chicos is super expensive.
The Einstein DVDS are great for babies and the Einstein toys/activity center are great! They aren't available here...There are basic stuff here like walkers (disney $75)
get netting for carseat, playpen, bassinet if you have mosquitoes real bad in your house...
if you are not breastfeeding, formula is expensive so stock up on that.
secret harbor is a great beach for babies...lots of shade and calm.
get a "jeep" style stroller for the island that has a good shade cover on it...
hope this all helps...
most of all...since there isn't a ton for you to do in the very early stages with the baby...get involved in a mommy group ...there are several on the island...ONika is in one and I started one, too...PM either of us for info.
enjoy!

Kelly has pretty much covered it, a few additional things...

Buy the floor pieces in the States before you come down...they are no where to be found here.

Baby Einstein DVDs are available in a box set at Costco for super-cheap.

We had all of our baby furniture shipped in because I found my choices were either particle board or really expensive natural wood.

Dr Macariola (Mac) is a wonderful and attentive doctor. Absolutely make sure you make an appointment the first week you return to the island.

For social activities, after baby reaches 6 months sign up for a Magen's baby swim class. You will meet many other moms and babies.

Onika,

Who did you order your furniture from?

If you can believe it, IKEA.
As long as you make sure to only get solid wood from them, they are worth it.

The set we purchased is below:
http://www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?cattype=sub&topcategoryId=15567&categoryId=15625&parentCats=15567*16113&storeId=12&catalogId=10103&langId=-1

It was all delieverd to Carib Trans in Miami and then shipped here.

FYI, IKEA actually has quite a bit that is available online. The only downside, of course, is that you have to be willing to assemble the entire thing.

I cried after we had assembled the crib. A combo of pregnancy hormones, exhaustion and joy at the actual sight of the crib. Meaning the impending arrival of actual child.

LR, is there any particular reason you are inquiring? 😉

Kelly,

Tell D to call me if he still needs that crate. Also if you are getting alot of mosquitos I HIGHLY recommend getting a mosquito magnet they are a bit pricey but they are totally worth it. We used to have tennis elbow from swatting all the mosquitos now there are virtually none except one room which is on the opposite end of the house from the magnet. But the rest of the rooms are pest free.

Hope all is well.

Congrats on the news!

Yeah, more babies!

So, you already know the gender? How far along are you? Do you have an OB/Gyn?

Tell all please (feel free to do so by PM)!
