Hello,
I was wondering if your credit rating is a big deal in STT like it is on the mainland?
The reason for this question is. I was pondering the idea of filing for bankruptcy before
moving to STT, so I would not have the stress of extra bills starting out. Here on the mainland credit is so important when applying for job even getting electric and telephone service. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

I would always consider long and hard about filing bankruptcy. credit is important everywhere. If you are filing to get rid of bills hanging over your head, its not a good idea. The jobs in STT pay less than in the mainland and the cost of living is higher, so if you can't make it in the mainland, I would reconsider only because the "moving to the vi" handbook suggests that you have enough funds to live on for about 3 months, in case you don't get a job right away. It all depends on when you come as to when the apartments, jobs etc are mostly available. Its just a thought, If you do the move I wish you the best. We have been planning for over a year now.

Not to recommend bankruptcy but I have lived here ten years and as far as power, telephone, apartments, jobs have not had a credit check done. One or two of the prospective landlords wanted to but I'm just a hippie who never grew up and don't like giving out my social security number.
