What critter makes that loud, low pitched, semi-warbly sound at night in Cotton Valley?

Jeez ladies, I would have totally fallen for it. Good thing I was a flat chested skinny little stick in high school so no boys wanted to take me snipe hunting. All I heard about was the submarine races and it took me into my 20s to figure that one out.

We used a gunny sack so the snipe couldn't scratch us with their claws after we bagged them.

At the risk of dating myself even more -- watching the submarine races were what couples parked in cars at night were said to be doing/watching. That was in the good old days, you know, the 60's!!

Well for me the good old days were the 70s and my understanding of the submarine races are too embarrassing for me to say but Linda J is about right. Hint, submarines go down.:-o

With you on the submarine races! In our neck of the woods (North florida) we only took the Yankee cousins snipe hunting. And yes we also used feed bags! Ah, the good old days!
