Cotton Valley Mall to Close?

Had a friend of mine mention that last time he was dumping his trash at the WMA site in Cotton Valley, that the WMA employee on-site, mentioned that the facility would be closing permanently sometime in July. The reason given was that people did not place trash into the dumpsters. Has anyone else heard anything to either substantiate or refute this?

It wouldn't surprise me at all. VIWMA's vision is all about collecting fees and control. The spiffy new, secured and supervised Peter's Rest transfer station is free now, but soon will become a fee based site, mark my words. The Cotton Valley transfer station cannot be secured or controlled in its present condition. You'll begin to notice a lot more trash by the roadside soon enough.

Just pay $25/month and VI Regulated Waste will pick up your trash. The CV site is about the only one in a residential area I know of.

I heard the Mon Bijou dump is to close June 1 and be turned into another controlled dump station. I foresee lots of trash being dumped improperly in the near future.(td)

Where precisely is the Mon Bijou dump? I moved to the Morningstar area a little over a month ago, and I have no idea where it is. I only know how to find the Peter's Rest station. Any directions would be appreciated!

Cotton Valley dump closing? Oh wonderful. Can you imagine how many people will
NOT bother driving the garbage all the way to Peter's Rest! Another well thought out, great VI idea.

I don't believe the people here are saying that they won't go all the way to Peter's Rest or that they wouldn't pay VIRWM (which is an O'Neale's Transport company I believe). The concern is that in closing the CV location there are many people that will not bother. I believe if this happens the bush will become a trash dump. It's very sad to me how much littering we already have on this beautiful island. It's a shame that people don't seem to teach the children that it's wrong. I was following a cop car that tossed out a cigarette butt not long ago - shameful.

You guys are freaking out over a rumor. Try calling WMA on Monday and ask them.

Where exactly is the Peters Rest [waste management] location?

It's the dirt patch here: https://www.google.com/maps/ @17.7253527,-64.7353236,503m/data=!3m1!1e3
Except now it's paved and fenced.

It's called "The Mall" because folks set good stuff they are getting rid of off to the side of the dumpsters for others to pick up.
You would be surprised at some of the decent furniture and what have you that gets dropped there.
One thing for sure, you can't complain about the prices at the Cotton Valley Mall!

The Cotton Valley Mall is Macys/Nordstroms/Bed Bath & Beyond compared to the Mon Bijou Walmart.

I like going to CV because the vagrants often unload your vehicle for a buck.

Its best to go way after dark to off load your yard waste and home renovation garbage. Much less chance of getting a fine that way.

The Avis has an ad on page 16 announcing the closure of both Cotton Valley and Mon Bijou MALL sites.

The Cotton Valley meeting will be Tuesday June 10 from 6-8pm @Green Cay Marina
The Mon Bijou meeting will be Wednesday June 11 from 6-8pm @John H. Woodson Jr. High School
