Cost of moving?
Good Afternoon All,
My husband and I are seriously considering moving to St Croix. Could you islanders give us some advice on what the cost is from Miami, Fl to ship our goods to St Croix.? I am in the Medical Profession and have applied to several jobs on websites and have heard nothing as of yet. My husband drives boats and he too has received no reply from his resume.
After reading some of the posts looks like you need to appear in person and that we can do.
Is it best to sell all your furniture in the mainland or ship it. What is the cost to get a vehicle over? I can't seem to find those sources.
Anyone that could help I would so appreciate it..

when i moved here in 2004 it was about 2000-2500 for my car-for me was better to bring my car then to buy one i knew nothing about, plus it was paid off. Crowley was used for this
our household goods might have been about 1000. not really any furniture to speak of. 1-4 pieces that i could not live without. vi cargo was used for this
hubby already had a place to live-he was down here about a year before me.
Thank you for the info.. I won't say I not alittle bit afraid after reading posts about sudden rise in crime. But again where isn't there crime? We kinda have picked Christiansted to live is that a fairly safe area, or do you know?
Thanks again
Lara
Oft-repeated, but have you read all the information in the drop-down menus top of this page? Aside from that vast amount of information, the questions you're asking have been discussed many, many times in forum threads and you might want to use the search engine to filter them out. Good luck.
There is no need to be overly worried about violent crime in the VI or St. Croix. Most of what you read and hear is just locals shooting each other in and around the projects over some perceived slight or drug deal gone bad.
i live in christiansted myself. i dont worry as much as my husband does. there is crime but most of the violent crime is between gang banger types. not saying violent crime does not happen to others, but not as common.
just take normal precautions and you should do fine
So many places here are furnished, I got rid of all my furniture both times I moved here. I'd bring my own car, dishes, kitchen stuff you like, linens, and pillows. Those that are provided in rentals just haven't cut it for me, so I did bring all that stuff and our Stihl chainsaw, just in case of a hurricane. Been though that before and needed one. Oh, we did bring our Bose and one flat screen TV as most rentals tv's aren't great. I also brought a good selection of my wall art I've collected throughout my travels to make a place feel more like it was mine.
Welcome, we live on the West end now and are really enjoying this end.
