if you have wireless DSL from one of the few providers, expect to pay approximately $50 per month for the ongoing service. The equipment and installation charges vary by company and the timing of when you have it set up.

And we pay $60/mo. (I think) from VI Broadband. Seems to be very stable, with good access. I think the initial set up was in the neighborhood of $200. It's not rocket fast like cable from the states, but hey...nothing is!

Tanya,

If you go to this board's "infrastructure" portion of the moving center

https://www.vimovingcenter.com/infrastructure/#Internet%20Service:

there's a brief description of Internet Service Providers in the VI.

A quick list of local providers (some people also use off-island dial-up providers. There are no off-island broadband providers.)

Dial-up:

surfVI
Pennswoods.net
VIPowerNet (Innovative)
Choice (VIAccess)

Broadband:
Ackley Communications
BroadbandVI
Choice (VIAccess)
COMTek
VIPowerNet (Innovative)
Satellite Entertainment Services

The first 4 provide a wireless (not to be confused with Wi-Fi) connection to your home/business. They all employ different products and methods, and their network setups are remarkably different. Innovative is the only "DSL" provider- that is, the only one allowed to utilize the phone line (copper) infrastructure to provide DSL. Satellite uses, obviously, satellite, beaming the signal up to an orbiting satellite, down to an ISP, then back up the satellite and down to your dish.

If you have any specific questions, I'd be happy to answer them either here or via the PM function.

Best,

LR
