Hi All,

I visited STT last August and of course loved it. From the first day i knew i wanted to move there. I said to myself, i don't care what job I do here as long as I can wake up to this weather and go to the beach everyday for a swim. However, I currently have a job as a fanancial analist in a good company. So my initial thought was, well maybe i can get a job in one of the corporations there doing finance / accounting. After reading these forums, i think i may need to scap my bachlors degree for a bartending licence it will probaly serve me better there. But on a serious note, I want to still attempt to find a semi-normal job in my proffession, however the internet has been no help. Can any of you suggest some kind of source that I can use to find out list of coporations in VI? or list of open finance / accounting positions? or are such jobs get passed down to family and friends, or to friends of friends? Basically what I want to know how realistic is it for finding a job in my profession in VI?

Thank you all in advance!

Larisa

Larisa- I use the website www.ajb.org and specify all jobs within area code 00820. there are several finance related jobs listed within the results for STT and STX. I'm not sure how the process works in securing these positions, but i'll be on-island(STX) jan 31, and my first stop will be the job services. I'll get back to you on how it works. I've tried calling and sending resumes to them, but received no response. After querying the people on this message board, I understand now that you should/must be on-island prior to expecting anything from them. I'll post the results of my efforts.

Many of the financial services companies are EDC and will require you to be a bona fide resident of the VI for one year. On the other hand, people with a good work ethic and knowledge can usually find something. May not be exactly what you wanted, but it will be work.

Do a search here for Economic Development Commission (EDC) to find out about it.

There are also a lot of hotels on the island. They all have very important accounting and finance departments.

Thank you all for your responses! I will defintly check out these sources. I did send an application to Ritz Carlton, but then right after I thought, that they probaly not even going to look at it, when they'll see an NJ address...

jnjrhome, please keep me posted about your job search once you get there, I'd appriciate any tips / info you can share based on your actual experience.

Thanks again, this message board is great!

Larisa709,

If you follow up with Human Resources at the Ritz and tell them you are planning on coming down for a visit that will help clarify the NJ address. They get resume's sent in via email all the time. Following up and calling to make sure they got your information always seemed like pestering to me, but it works!
