Haven't had time to look into the info on this particular Marina proposal and get STJ friends feedback.

What can I say.....same ting, different players, same concerns with the largeness of project for this newly proposed marina and all of the environmental impacts and degradation of a not extremely sheltered bay, its seagrass beds, fish nursery, marine life, noise, pollution, depth of location, what draft of yachts do they wish to accommodate, will they have to dredge, etc.?
Where they wish to build is basically in a bowl that sounds will reverberate all thru the building and pile driving process up the hillsides and surrounding areas.
If you look at Yacht Haven Grand and live here on STT, you'll see that it sits, basically, empty of yachts 3/4s of the year. That's 9 months with no business. Empty docks. Stores and restaurants turn over, ownership, often.
I still think a project of that magnitude/92 slips, plus all the "other stuff" is just too much for sleepy, low key, quaint Coral Bay tho it's drastically changed and very much different now than it used to be.
I think it's pretty built up now without all this stuff. But that's just me.
Other questions I would again ask is if the infrastructure there can handle it? Police presence, EMT and ambulance services, trash, oil and waste disposal, etc., if it would become a reality.
Can't say it would be my cuppa tea but will wait until more info provided and how people actually living and vacationing there, regularly, feel. As you all may know, Summer's End mega marina
project had great opposition. And rightfully so.

I think they're asking for public comment. Will provide info if nobody else does. Doing something else right now.

Can you imagine if both marinas were allowed?
(Truthfully, this is not far fetched given our DPNR who grants permits, willy nilly.)
Luckily those plans have to be approved by by many federal agencies before ultimate approval.
CBCC plans to have an open meeting on the 11th.

blech I was hoping to see something a little more reasonable with this other marina. St. John just can't handle something like this in any kind of way. There isn't the demand for something like this, and there isn't (and never will be) the infrastructure for it. Coral Bay couldn't even handle a smaller place like Voyages. I just hate to think that this might be a project started and never finished. I do think a marina on St. John would be a good idea, I just think it needs to be much smaller. But I guess developers don't want to do something like that because it's earning potential would be much less. Guess they don't realize that if they do something that big they are going to end up losing big, not earning big.

USVI will never be a true sailing/boating destination unless CBP and homeland security will ease up the rules for international community. Right now BVI has 95% of charter/boating business. USVI has a fraction and caters to US residents only. Having said that I would like to see a small marina in Coral Bay. It could give a nice boost to the businesses in CB and become like JvD for sailing community. This new marina will not happens within at least 10 15 years.

A small marina would be fine in Coral Bay.
30-35 slips max and some moorings.
Not the invasive, huge ones these developers wish to build.
STT had a thriving charter yacht business in the 70's.
Yacht Haven Marina was always busy and business was good and flourishing. New rules and regulations sent the majority of boats fleeing to the BVI.

We have a nice little marina in STX, Green Cay Marina. I would love to see STX and STT a little more charter friendly, more mooring balls (property maintained) for visiting boats for easy access to our awesome waterfront dining/drinking maybe some dinghy docks and moorings out west as well.. VI Tourism had an article in the Avis about being more "boater friendly" about a year ago.I called Dept of Tourism and told them I'd love to get involved and off assistance as to what boaters need/want to attract more. i got a NO THANKS we don't need any help. Of course they don't need help, they know what they are doing.

Although situated in a better location and not catering to mega yachts, this project presents other, equally as concerning environmental problems.
