Construction on the Islands?
I was wondering if anyone could point me toward a good resource for information concerning new construction on the islands - things like permits, planning, zoning, "specifics" - things like that. I am involved in the construction trade here in the states, and would like to find information that would allow me to research the feasibility of building a home there, and the possiblity of doing new home construction as a business - I currently own a small business here in Kansas City.
KC, we have also been checking out the possibility of building on island. We contacted CJ Floyd on STT:

He has been helpful in getting an idea of how to maneuver around the permits, planning, architectual necessities, etc. He builds the "round houses" which are supposed to be hurricane resistant; we got a surprising bid from him for everything except the slab, cistern, septic, and of course, the land. We had pretty much ruled out building when we thought we would pay upwards of $90/sq.ft., but the bid came in for the kit at around $50/sq.ft. It's expensive any way you look at it. If you would like to talk more, give me a call. We live north of the river by Oak Park HS, just north of Gladstone - 816-679-6701.

Hi KC,
We are also looking at the construction industry at STX...a unique sort of construction, new to the islands....would be interested in talking more.
What sort of construction are you doing now? And when are you thinking of making the move?
Was the interior finished by the same builder for that price?
Is this just a shell system and then one must have the interior walls, floors, electrical, plumbing, etc added?
What was the finished per square foot price?
We are comtemplating a move to St. Croix, VI.
Thanks
