Considering Relocating

Hi all,

I have been reading these boards for a while now contemplating a move to the islands. My only concern at this point is finding work. I am a 24 year old with a BS in Mechanical Engineering but I don't expect to find an engineering position. I am very outgoing and versatile. I just cant stand to think that I am going to slave my life away sitting in a cubicle as I am now; staring out of the window wanting to get outdoors.

I am not sure what island i would like to go to, but honestly I don't think I can live without a gym (I am a gym rat). Anyways, do you folks think one can make a decent income to support basic living on the islands? My girlfriend has a hospitality degree in hotel management and she is also talking about coming with me (this is a whole other discussion). I know the economy is horrid, but I am willing to work hard, and I feel I can do pretty much anything, including anything to do with diving as I love to dive.

any thoughts?

-Evan

dont know if this fits for you, but have you tried Hovensa and their contractors? Hovensa is on STX and there are several hotels on island,

You wouldn't have to go without a gym here on STX, either. There's one at Beeston Hill and (I think) one in the Golden Rock shopping center.

Don't understand if you are trying to be humorous billd but this forum is for folks to help those that want to relocate here. Your comments are totally unnecessary.

COME ON DOWN !!!! you will never know until you try....Some OLD guy told me a long time ago when I was your age the following.."..He who has a weak heart never wins the fair lady"... be bold in your life ... trust your instincts... use good measured judgement ... and have the confidence in YOURSELF.. not other people.... Good luck !(tu)

I agree.
We're all here because we can't stand the place.
The only reason we live here is because of the cost of living.

Clearly "Billd" works for a construction company and doesn't want the competition.

The fact that so many of us live here IN SPITE OF the problems, is quite a testimony.

*snicker*
Yeah, because we all love paying $5 for a jar of peanut butter and $10 for the same bottle of shampoo that would cost $5 in the states.

Evan, the only way you're going to know is if you come down for a pre-move visit and check it out. It's been an adjustment for me--nothing like Charlotte by ANY stretch of the imagination--but if I had it to do over again, I would.
