i have one year of college left, and am considering moving down to one of the usvi (st croix?) hopefully with one other person, but maybe alone. i should have enough money to stay in a b&b or whatever for the first month or two, until i find a real apt or house. as far as a job - this is where my question is.. i would be hoping to bartend and (primarily and hopefully) print my own handmade tshirts for sale to tourists. any advice or pertinent information?

thanks in advance, and this site has been a great help thus far.

Hello Ben,

Yes you could find work bartending. St. Croix gets less cruise ship visitors then St. Thomas. And t-shirt buyers are often the cruise folks - so your t-shirt business might do better in St. Thomas although you would be entering a market that is saturated with t-shirt sellers (usually the cheap buy 6 for $10 variety). If you can establish a good quality product then yes I think you could sell your shirts as well as bartend on St. Croix.

Hi!

My sister and I found out today that she will be attending school in St. Croix for the Fall and Spring Semester (03-04). I will be going with her. We are kind of in the same boat that you are (job, housing). If you run across any good info please let us know, we will do like wise. Good luck!

Jennifer -

You sister will be attending UVI?? Who will be looking for work - both of you are just you? What type of work? For apartments you should get a hold of the Avis, if you would like information on the islands in terms of living order a Setterls Handbook from http://www.vitraders.com in the books section.

Hello Islander!

My sister will be attending UVI, and we will both be looking for work. I ordered the Settler's Handbook (because I saw that you recommended that on many of your posts) I also ordered a couple of papers with it (Avis, and the Island Trader). That should help us get started. I have read through several months of posts on this site and have found a ton of information and good advice. Thank you for your reply!

Hello Jennifer,

Your sister might consider looking into on campus jobs. Not sure they will be as fun, but its a job. At UVI there are students working in the library and as assitance to professorts dependng on your major, and other jobs. Not many usually but there are some, also in the mail center. Not as fun as working in a tour or restaurant however if she could get informaiton on a campus job might be worth looking into as a back up. She might also check and see once at UVI whether there is a job bulletin board of any kind. I am familiar with the St. Thomas campus and there was sometimes things like this.
