Consideirng relocating to ST. Croix.....anyone with young children, pls give feedback!
I'm currently doing my PMV (pre-move visit) on St. Croix and I'm pretty close to making a final decision. I'm from NYC, though I lived in Puerto Rico for almost 6 years, so I'm familiar with the caribbean lifestyle. I have a small son (he'll be 4 this month) and I'm expecting another little boy in August. My main concern on the island is finding some sort of pre-school / headstart for my son. Also, he's very active and loves to do all kinds of sports, so if anyone has any ideas of different things I could get him involved in, that would be great! I don't plan on working for at least 6 months after having my baby, which would be around Feb. or so, but then I'd defenitely need something, maybe in the hotel / tourism industry. Any advice / suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanx!
I'm in a similar situation, my little girl is 2. I have found swimming (Country Day little Dolphins) through this board, but nothing else. I will keep you posted if I do, please do the same. By the way, I'm moving down there in August from NNJ. I did my pmv in April, I wanted to come back before moving, but that's not going to happen. I've resigned to putting my little girl in Montessori school until she's school age and by then I can decide if I want to continue with it or go with another option. Good Luck.
I think your kids are too young, but the Manor School has a summer fun camp and everyday they do something fun and it's not too pricey. that's all I know of
There is soccer, baseball, karate, swimming, moms groups, preschool, summer camps, gymnastics, and boy scouts.

Do you know where i can find all these activities? Are they @ the Manor school?
Thanks for the info!
The best source of this kind of information is from fellow parents at your school.
Befriend them. Get involved. And ask a lot of questions.
They'll tell you who has what programs, and which are best.
But if come waiting for these programs/offerings to be well advertised...you'll miss them!

I realize this...the issue is, my son is just turning 4 and he isn't in any schools yet. This is the reason for my inquiries. I'm sure once I get him settled, I'll be able to get alot more feedback from other parents, but it would be nice to have an IDEA at least of what options are available for him. Thanks for your comments!
St. Mary's has a nice camp. It is cheaper than Country Day, which also has a very nice camp. I think they take ages 3 and up at both places. And you can enroll in both on a week by week basis.
There is a great network of Moms on St. Croix with a Yahoo! groups webpage with announcements about events (e.g., story hours at the bookstore, weekly playgroups at the beach, holiday get-togethers), selling baby items, miscellaneous questions/advice.
Try a search for Tamarind Moms on Yahoo! Groups. If you can't find it, send me a PM and I"ll give you the email address for the moderator to add you to the list - I haven't checked with her about posting her information to this board.
We've got a 2 year old and another boy on the way in September - there are a TON of us around here due around the same time! I'm also teaching a free prenatal yoga class for some other pregnant women/new moms if you're interested.
Good luck!
Julie
To jwsommer, thanks so much for the info! I will defenitely check out the yahoo! group as soon as I'm done typing this msg. Great to know there will be moms and babies due at the same time as myself! As I mentioned earlier, I'm due in August, but wont be in STX till around Sept / Oct. I wish I had the opportunity to be there sooner, but with my delivery being a c-section, I'd have to wait for doc's OK before traveling from NY. I'm very excited about moving to STX in just a few months, thank you all for your feedback and suggestions.
