Hello Everyone,

A few months ago, I posted a thread asking for advice on bringing my indoor/outdoor cat with us on our move. She would not be happy staying indoors, and after purchasing a home on STT, I'm not sure it would even be possible to keep her indoors as the house is very open.

I did receive a lot of feedback and the majority said it is probably best to leave her behind with a new home (my neighbors have offered to take her, she is friends with their cat) because it can be dangerous - frogs, lizards, other pests can make her sick, ferrel cat fights, dog fights, etc. that can harm her.

When we were down last month on our pre-move visit, I asked around and many of the locals I spoke with said she would be fine to bring down. That the poisonus frogs/lizards wouldn't kill her, just give her a little high for few hours. Everyone I spoke to thought she would be ok.

I just read in Life in the Left Lane, that there are certain lizards she could eat that would kill her and some plants could be harmful to her as well. I'm torn - I'd really like to bring her, but I don't want to bring her for selfish reasons, if it is not in her best interest.

She is spayed, so she wouldn't be contributing to the pet popluation. I was thinking we may be able to adopt an island cat from the shelter that could "show her the ropes". Sorry this is so long, but does anyone have advice? Again, I want to look out for her best interest but leaving her behind would break my heart. If I know she would be safe there, I wouldn't hesitate to bring her. Our new property is on a hill, with a few houses around, but very heavily landscaped.

I have an indoor/outdoor cat and she has never had a problem. She catches lizards, mice, rats, chases iquanas, etc.etc. Good luck.

Hello Janelle,

Of the things you listed I would say that fights with stray cats or neighborhood cats, then dogs if neighbors have them and let them lose, then cars if you live close to a main road would be the biggest dangers. Frogs, lizards aren't a big concern just something to be aware of that could happen.

Bring her, try to keep her indoors and take her outdoors when you guys are outdoors - she will learn the environment.
