confiscated cigs
Well I pulled a duh not knowing I could not mail cigarettes out of the VI to the states.Homeland security confiscated them and are holding them in detention now for up to 30 days. Does anybody know where they might be or how to reach them as there is no info like that on my nasty little note they left in place of my cigs! Sure would like to get them back. They were mailed out of STX but my paper just says detained from USVI. Thanks I found a port code 4913 does anybody know where that might be?
I am sure homeland security is enjoying them by now.
San Juan Airport (Luis Munoz Marin International Airport)
Thanks I will try to find a number !
Anybody going to San Juan that might be willing to try and find them? There are 5 cartons so I would compensate you. I only have a claim form # ( STX )
You might as well write them off.
Not to mention that you violated federal law and there may be penalties to deal with when you make an attempt to pick them up.
Good point ,thanks

I've had one incoming package confiscated but not outgoing and there's no trouble had - simply confiscation. If you tried it on a regular basis there would be consequences.
Thanks for that OT I never even thought about sending those out as being a problem. Like I said I pulled a big Duh! Sure would hate to go to jail for 5 cartons of cigs:S
If it were legal I would have been been shipping them to a store in the states for years.
5 cartons of cigarettes would however get you a few nights good sleep in jail.

I understand you're a man who knows how to get things?
Why isn't it legal to mail cigarettes?
USPS regulations:

Why isn't it legal to mail cigarettes?
They're listed as a restricted material (Publication 52 Section 47)
They ship them all over the world but they can't be mailed.
What BS.
Good to know, however.
Sorry for your plight, crazyinca!

Taxes. We get a huge tax break. To ship to the mainland by any means is illegal. It bypasses the reason we have a tax break.
Yup, duties and taxes. Some places have taxes on a single pack of cigarettes more than $6. That's just the taxes.... a single pack of cigarettes can cost up to $11 in Chicago/New York. If it was legal to mail them from here, I'm sure there would be plenty of people who would be happy to buy them at a nice mark up for what you get them here for.
Cigs down here used to have some sort of a marking even indicating they were duty free smokes, don't know if that is still the case. Booze is same way. How much trouble OP would get into I suppose is all dependent on mood of Homeland Insecurity. I've known stupid people that tried to get Cuban cigars through customs and got caught, some were caught, lost cigars, and warned, others got all of that and a $50.00 fine per cigar. Many times it doesn't seem if there is any hard fast rule as to what they will do
So I went off island not too long after I put that box in the mail and not knowing about it yet. At the airport obviously they did as soon as I gave them my ID it was interesting, asked 3 times if I had anything else to declare except for the cigs that I did (which were allowed) then had to fill out a declaration form . I guess they doubted me because they went through every bag looking for hidden contraband, After finding nothing else I was on my way. I hope that was the end of it because I'm thinking if there was going to be more to it, it would have taken place right then and there. Keeping my fingers crossed. Guess I should take this as a sign to quit smoking!!!!!
lol
I never had to fill out a customs declaration when I left on vacation just recently.
Glad you got thru.
You CAN be asked to complete a customs declaration form but they were generally eliminated a while ago.
