Coming for 2 months Feb-March
I'm trying to move to the Cruz Bay area (or anywhere on the north shore), in St. John for 2 months (Feb-March) to do some spiritual healing. Any affordable places that do long term rentals? Anyone need a great roommate? 🙂
Good night Jumbie27,
Most of the north shore is owned by the park or campgrounds; not many places to rent. It's also not a very practical place to stay if you don't own your own transportation.
You'll have quite a bit of a challenge finding an affordable option for a two-month stay on STJ that time of year (unless "affordable" for you starts at about $2K per month). There's just too much money to be made in weekly rentals when it's cold in the States. I would recommend calling some of the real estate or property management companies and see what advice they have. A roommate situation would be more feasible, but that's tough to find from off island. You may have to try your luck by showing up and seeing what's available on the board at Connections. It usually works out, though.
Good luck!
A two month stay would be considered short term rental by most, and that means really high short term rates, during our busiest months. Things have lightened up a bit since the economy isn't so great, and a lot of places are accepting 6 month leases instead of 1 year leases, but I don't know of anyone who is doing a month to month at the cheaper long term rental rates. I'm not sure if he is doing it any more, but I know that the guy from Love City Productions was renting out a couple of the rooms in his place, so you might want to try him. You can find his contact info here: http://www.lovecityproductions.com/contact.html You might get some kind of discount from Cruz Views, http://www.caribbeanvilla.com/cviews/cruz_views.html OR St. John Inn, http://www.stjohninn.com/ BUT I wouldn't count on it since February and March are our two busiest months and they likely will fully book at full price for those two months. St. John is a great place for some spiritual healing, but it usually requires quite a bit of $. Hope you find what you are looking for!

See if you can volunteer at Maho. The application is on their website. For a minimum 30-day stay, I think you get free lodging.
Ms 411, I believe all those jobs are for low season. They've also cut back their work exchange program significantly from past years.
