Josh,

You can try looking up nursing homes and other potential employers in the VI phone book, which is online at http://www.viphonebook.com

We've been told on this board that employers can be hesitant to hire people who have not yet moved to the islands, so you may get better responses as you get closer to or even after your move. Another tip from the experts on this board: phone calls are far better than email for making these inquiries -- email isn't as widely used in th VI as it is here on the mainland.

Good luck with the job hunt and the move!

Potential employers will not take calls from the states seriously, there so many folks scoping out the employment scene via long distance there that it wastes their time. They would want to see you in person, see that you have the correct documentation and even then its not uncommon to be told to come back next week to talk to so and so, however so and so won't be there so come back another week. Its not an easy process. I would highly suggest you secure a job prior to any permanent move, maybe take a few weeks to job hunt. If this is not a possibility many health care professionals go thru the traveling health care agencies based in Miami. Do a google search on the traveling nurses groups. There aren't many "retirement home' in the VI which is a serious problem for the hospital there which ends up keeping pts who need long term care. A lot of the CNA's at these few homes are locals who have held the jobs for years and years.

Hmm, deja vu... Call Seaview Nursing and Rehabilitation 340-777-3303. It is the only Medicare/Medicaid certified facility in the Virgin Islands. There is also Massac's 340-774-9177. These are both on St Thomas. The territorial government has a facility on St Thomas and one on St Croix- you would need to go through the Labor Dept I suspect. CNAs also work in Home Health, the hospitals and some do private duty.

I don't know how the CNA jobs are but it sounds promising from previous replies. Might think of keeping Ramp Agent as a possible part time job if nothing more than the flight benefits and a little extra cash. 🙂
