What are the trials and tribulations related to obtaining your relocated household shiping assignment when it arrives in STT? Are there the same king of issues involved as are with shipping/clearing a car?

After a year of living on St. Croix, we took the plunge and last month shipped the rest of our stuff down. It was totally hassle free.

We had our goods, about a small cargo van full, delivered to VI Cargo in Medley, Florida. We had each box/item labeled with our names and address and phone # on STX. In each box was a list of contents and we gave VIC a list of contents. We told VIC we were coming, but no prepay was necessary. Our goods were at VIC before noon on Wednesday. They shipped that week and we picked them up the following Thursday at VIC on STX. VIC gets them through customs and you pay VIC when you pick up.

We had nothing of any interest to anybody (books, household junk, a few pieces of furniture) and customs didn't open a single box.

E-mail me if you have other questions.

We just cleared customs yesterday and our stuff is literally surrounding me as I write. You need a detailed list of everything you shipped and just to be sure have a second copy with value. Anyway, they didn't open our boxes either, but you never know. What was really a relief was hiring some people to move our crate to our house and unloading it. We used a fast good crew from Transportation Corporation (340-776-7039) I hope that is within the guidelines of this board. I don't gain anything from it. They were just so fast and great! They got to my house at noon and unloaded everything from a packed 20' crate in about an hour and a half. The crate is gone and I am left with a lot of unpacking. They did offer to come back and help us with the unpacking, but we don't know where we are putting everything just yet so we are waiting til later. They also do customs clearing which I would recommend as well. Less headache if you don't know what you are doing.
